Cheated Once Cherished Forever: The Billionaire's Bride novel Chapter 100

Isabella had just survived an abduction, and Theodore wasn't having dinner at home. After having a quick bite, she set her cutlery down.

When Agnes saw this from beside, she inquired nervously, "Mrs. Sinclair, are the dishes not to your liking? Why did you have so little to eat?"

Isabella replied, "Oh, not at all. I just don't have much of an appetite today. I'm sorry for wasting your time when you've made a whole spread of food."

Agnes felt worse after hearing that. She waved her hand, saying, "Don't say that, Mrs. Sinclair. We're just doing our job. What would you like to eat, then? I'll make something else for you. You have to eat more than that for dinner."

Isabella said, "No need for that, really. You may get off work now, Agnes. I'll just get something simple to eat if I get hungry later."

Since Isabella insisted, Agnes couldn't argue further. She had no choice but to leave.

That being said, she still couldn't feel at ease after getting off work because Isabella didn't look too good today. So, she rang Theodore up.

After three rings, Theodore answered the call. The first thing he asked was—"Did something happen to Isabella?"

Agnes could hear the concern in his voice. She replied instantly, "Don't worry, Mr. Sinclair. Nothing happened to her. I just decided to call you to let you know that she doesn't look too good, and she only had a few bites for dinner."

"Got it. Thank you."

After ending the call, Theodore tightened his grasp on his phone. In an instant, a worried look came across his gaze that had only contained a business-like frigidity earlier.

When Isabella came out of the washroom after washing up, she noticed three missed calls on her phone, which she had left on her bedside table. All those calls were from Theodore.

She furrowed her brows. He had called her three consecutive times… Could something urgent have happened? She called him back right away.

He answered her call almost immediately. With a hint of urgency in his voice, he asked, "Where are you, Bella?"

Perplexed, Isabella answered in a slightly puzzled voice, "I'm at home. What's up?"

Through the phone, she could hear him breathe a sigh of relief. Then, she heard Caleb's voice, though it was faint. It sounded like he had asked, "Did you forget something, Mr. Sinclair?"

Isabella asked, "Why did you call? Did something happen?"

Theodore answered, "No. I'm a little occupied tonight, so I can't make it home to spend time with you."

"Okay."

The call fell silent.

When all that remained on the other end of the call was the sound of Theodore's shallow breaths, she spoke softly, as if she was afraid that she'd bother him.

"Theodore, truth be told… I was terrified today. At the same time, I wasn't afraid because I knew that you'd come to save me."

He held his breath for a moment. Right after that, he whispered in a voice that carried an almost unnoticeable gentleness, "I should've found you a lot sooner."

Someone next to him seemed to ask, "Mr. Sinclair?"

In a jiffy, his usual tone of voice returned as he continued speaking with the other person. Though, he was now gentler when turning pages of documents, and he sounded a little more relaxed when he spoke.

As Isabella listened in, her eyelids started to feel heavy. Without saying anything else, she closed her eyes slowly while listening to the steady hum of Theodore's voice. She cradled her phone in her hands.

While she was half-asleep, she seemed to hear the sound of Theodore wrapping up his meeting. She even heard him say to Caleb, "Leave the proposal here for now. I'll amend it later."

Thereafter, she heard the sound of a car engine being started. Theodore's voice sounded closer once again. "Are you still awake, Bella?"

She hummed an acknowledgment in a daze, only to hear him chuckle. "Are you hungry? Agnes told me that you didn't have much to eat for dinner."

Isabella was just about to say that she wasn't hungry when he added in a voice as gentle as the night, "I'll make pasta for you when I get home."
