Cheated Once Cherished Forever: The Billionaire's Bride novel Chapter 99

Theodore gently tapped his fingers on his knees. His gaze went cold as he remained silent.

Isabella let out a scoff. "Undoubtedly, they have two motives for taking those photos. They were either going to threaten Alexander with them or distribute them to ruin his reputation. Another motive was to present those photos to you so that you'd misunderstand."

Suddenly, Isabella's heart sank as she tightened her grasp around her glass of water. "Theodore, if it's the latter… I think I might be able to guess who's behind it."

Theodore lifted his eyes toward her. His frown was deep as his tone turned serious. He said, "My family made many enemies to get to where we are today. Plus, Alexander is the youngest scion of the family. His reputation is closely related to the entire family's reputation. It's not surprising for him to be someone's target."

Isabella bit down on her lip. Deep down, she was filled with anger. As she stared straight into Theodore's eyes, she noted that she had never understood his thoughts through looking at those deep eyes of his.

"Theodore, you know who I'm talking about—"

"Queenie is in the hospital as we speak," Theodore interrupted, his tone a tinge colder. "It couldn't have been her. Isabella, I know that you're not a fan of Queenie, but she's not a bad person at heart."

He paused, his gaze softening a little as he looked at Isabella. "Don't overthink it. I've asked Caleb to look into the backgrounds of those thugs. If we follow the clues, I believe that we'll soon be able to find out who the mastermind is."

Isabella exhaled heavily, reluctant to argue. After all, she had no evidence either. This was all just her own speculation.

At this moment, Theodore's phone rang. He glanced at the screen of his phone, then got to his feet and walked to the window to answer the call.

As Isabella sat on the couch, she could hear Caleb's voice from the other end of the call, albeit vaguely. He seemed to be saying that the thugs had confessed that they were acting on someone else's orders.

After ending the call, Theodore walked back toward her with an emotionless look on his face. He said, "I'll take you home for now."

Isabella paused for a bit, then glanced toward the door instinctively. She probed hesitantly, "A-Aren't we going to the hospital to check up on Alexander?"

Worry would continue nagging at her until she found out how Alexander was doing with his injuries.

Theodore gave her a quick glance and answered in a still voice, "There are doctors looking after him. He's fine after getting stitched up. He made a fuss about wanting to see you when he first came to, but I told the bodyguards to stop him from doing so in case he aggravated his wounds.

"Go home and get some rest. You can still visit him tomorrow."

Isabella fidgeted with the hem of Theodore's jacket. On second thought, he was right.

If she went to the hospital now, Alexander might actually disregard his injuries and make a huge fuss over her. So, she nodded. "Okay."

Soon enough, they arrived home. Theodore instructed the driver to bring the car to a stop. Then, he said to Isabella, "Head in for now and lock the doors. Call me if anything happens."

She asked, "What about you?"

He gazed at her, the look in his eyes softening. "I have something else to do. I'll be back soon."

Isabella spent another moment gazing deeply at him. In the end, she opened the car door and did not press on further.

After taking a couple of steps, she heard Theodore saying from within the car, "Let's bring some oatmeal when we visit Alexander at the hospital tomorrow. He's just gotten a few stitches, so he won't be able to have anything that has too much of a bite."

Isabella paused in her tracks. She looked back at the man in the car but could not tell if his suggestion was sincere.

That said, she remained polite and acknowledged softly, "Okay, sure thing."

Theodore waited until she had walked into the house before he got the driver to drive off.

As they drove away slowly, he pulled his phone out and sent Caleb a message. "Look into Queenie and see if anyone got in touch with Top Heights Group on her behalf while she was hospitalized."
