Once Theodore left, Isabella found herself alone in the vast living room. She couldn't help feeling miserable. After all, she had already started to care about him. But this had to stop. She couldn't afford to lose herself.
Just then, her phone rang. It was Giselle.
The moment Isabella saw the caller ID, she wanted nothing more than to ignore it. However, she remembered her bracelet was still with Giselle. On top of that, the Moores had gone suspiciously quiet lately. Isabella couldn't help but wonder if they were plotting something again.
She knew them too well. They would never give up so easily when money was on the line. So, she picked up and got straight to the point. "What do you want now, Giselle?"
A derisive laugh came from the other end.
"Isabella, do you still want that cheap little bracelet of yours?" Giselle drawled.
Isabella's voice dropped. "What are you getting at? If it's money you want, I don't have any. And if you're planning to toss it, be my guest."
Giselle wouldn't have called at this ungodly hour just to talk terms over a bracelet. She was definitely up to something.
"Come to Midnight Lounge right now, and I'll give you back your bracelet," Giselle said.
Isabella let out a cold chuckle. "Do you take me for a fool? At this hour? You really think I'd walk straight into your trap?"
Anyone who couldn't see that this was a setup had to be an idiot.
"Giselle, I don't have time for your games. If that's all you've got to say, I'm hanging up," Isabella added flatly.
Suddenly, Giselle shouted, "Gigi!"
The name hit Isabella like a jolt. She froze, her grip tightening around the phone.
"What did you just say?" she asked in a daze.
Giselle laughed mockingly and said, "Midnight Lounge. You've got 20 minutes. If you don't show up, you'll never get another chance."
Having said her piece, she cut the call.
Isabella, on the other hand, put her phone away and rushed out the door without a second thought. Even though she knew Giselle was setting her up, she had no choice but to go. The truth was, she had never told the Moores or anyone about Gigi.
Gigi was Isabella's only friend at the orphanage, and she was adopted before Isabella was. After Isabella was taken in by the Moore family, the two never heard from each other again.
Yet somehow, Giselle had managed to track Gigi down. She had to know exactly where the latter was now.
Who did Isabella think she was? Giselle had bullied her all her life, so what right did Isabella have to speak to her so arrogantly now?
Giselle retorted, "What I found doesn't matter. You didn't want to pay me, right? That's fine. I'll just get the money from someone else."
Isabella furrowed her brows. Out of nowhere, a wave of dread crashed over her.
Then, Giselle picked up her phone, dialed a number, and said, "Come in."
In an instant, Isabella sensed danger. At this point, nothing else mattered. She spun around and ran for the door.
But the moment she reached it, she stumbled back. Two burly men stepped inside, their menacing stares making her blood run cold.
When Isabella saw who was following behind them, her terror spiked. It was Queenie.
Suddenly, Giselle's taunting voice sounded from behind her. "Isabella, here's someone who wants to see you. I'll leave you two to chat."
With that, she rose and sauntered toward the door. As she walked past Isabella, she deliberately stopped to whisper, "If I had known getting money was this easy, I wouldn't have bothered wasting so much effort on you."
