A sharp smack echoed.
Outside the room, Yannick and the others finally couldn't hold back and rushed in. When they saw that Theodore had actually hit Queenie, they froze in place. They were confused and shocked.
"Theo… You…"
"Queen…"
Theodore's icy gaze swept over them, his voice cold as if wrapped in ice as he demanded, "Was tonight's setup planned by all of you together just to go after Isabella?"
They had all grown up with him and knew his personality. Normally, he treated everyone with calm detachment and rarely lost his temper, but when he did, there was almost no way out. The consequences were always brutal.
And now, they had crossed him…
Everyone lowered their heads silently, not daring to speak.
Theodore shouted, "Speak! Are you all dead?"
Yannick carefully tried to calm him. "Theodore, we were just trying… to help you and Queenie."
"How exactly were you helping me? Were you helping her by hurting my wife? Didn't I tell you that Isabella is my wife? Respecting her means respecting me! Is this how you show your loyalty?"
His roar made them shiver, and each of them lowered their heads even further.
Queenie, still reeling from the shock of being slapped by him, had always carried herself with pride. Now, with tears brimming in her swollen eyes, she clutched her stinging cheek and asked him in a quivering voice, "Did you just hit me for her? Theodore… You hit me for another woman. Why? Tell me why!"
Theodore looked at her coldly. The warmth that had once been in his eyes was gone, replaced by a stare that made her feel like she was just a stranger in his eyes. Her chest tightened.
He paid no mind to her emotions and continued in a chilling tone, "Queenie, this is the last warning for you. If you ever touch a hair on Isabella's head again, I'll never hold back!"
"I have never liked you." His voice was flat, his gaze sweeping over her reddened cheeks with no trace of pity. "Queenie, from this moment on, we will have nothing to do with each other anymore."
He turned to Yannick and the others frozen at the doorway and said in a tone as cold as ice, "You heard me! If any of you ever help her do anything to hurt Isabella again, I'll hold you accountable too!"
Yannick and the others didn't dare speak. By now, it was clear that Theodore valued Isabella far above Queenie, so much so that Queenie no longer mattered to him at all. No one knew how he had changed so quickly.
Theodore turned and picked Isabella up, walking straight out.
Queenie's eyes followed his back, her voice cracking as she shouted, "Theodore! You're heartless! I've given you so much of myself all these years, and you've just thrown it away! You have no heart at all!"
Theodore didn't respond. Holding Isabella, he disappeared step by step from Queenie's sight.
Queenie looked at the silhouette she had once known so well, only to find it suddenly unfamiliar. It left her rattled. It wasn't until Theodore's figure disappeared through the doorway that her legs gave out and her tears soaked a small patch on the carpet.
