Cheated Once Cherished Forever: The Billionaire's Bride novel Chapter 113

"Ms. Moore! Isabella!"

Alexander called out twice before Isabella snapped back to attention. She looked up and saw him, surprised. "Are you discharged already?"

His wrist was still wrapped in bandages.

She frowned, concerned. "Are you okay? How's your injury?"

Alexander turned his face away as he asked in an awkward voice, "Do you actually care whether I'm okay?"

Isabella felt a little embarrassed and explained, "I was caught up with something these past couple of days and couldn't go to see you at the hospital. You got hurt because of me…"

"In that situation, I would've done the same for anyone else."

Isabella smiled, praising him. "Yes, yes. Mr. Sinclair, you're a real hero!"

It was rare for her to compliment him. He snorted haughtily, though a spark of satisfaction had quietly replaced his usual indifference.

"I saw your leave note. Are you taking tomorrow off?" he asked.

The gathering would happen tomorrow. Popular artists from the comic world would all meet in Solara. Isabella had promised her fans she would attend, and she definitely would.

"I thought you wouldn't be back to work so soon, so I left the leave note in your office in advance."

Alexander nodded and started heading back to his office. After a few steps, he paused, remembered something, and glanced back at Isabella. "I heard Queenie is leaving the day after tomorrow."

Isabella fell silent. As expected, Theodore couldn't bring himself to harm her and had chosen to let her go.

"You know it was Queenie who kidnapped you, right?" Alexander asked.

Isabella forced a smile and nodded. "I know."

"And you—"

"Mr. Sinclair," she interrupted, lifting her head with a self-deprecating smile. "I'm not you. I wasn't born with a powerful background. Everything I do depends on myself, so there are a lot of things I just can't change. Since I can't, I won't overreach."

From the other end of the line, her words hammered at him like a drumbeat, but Alexander just leaned against his desk and absentmindedly touched the edge of his bandage. His voice was cold, without a trace of emotion.

"Yes, I got hurt because of her. But calling off the engagement has nothing to do with her. It's my decision."

"Your decision?" Amelia's voice shot up, shaking with anger. "Do you think you have the right to cancel this engagement? What about all the projects we've partnered on with the Logan family? And how do you plan to explain this to Theodore? Alexander, can't you act like an adult?"

"We can still continue projects with the Logan family. If they don't want to, I'll find other partners. As for Uncle Theo, I've already said that canceling the engagement is my own business. I don't like Ms. Logan."

Alexander looked out the window. "I'll apologize to Ms. Logan in person. I can tell she doesn't like me either."

"What does liking or not liking have to do with anything? Alexander, you were born into the Sinclair family! You have no right to bring the word 'like' into this!"

Amelia's anger was mixed with helplessness. "I'm not trying to force you, but you've already lost your position of power. If you don't get serious now, there will be more things you won't be able to control! If you want the right to choose, you have to be the one in control first! Do you understand?"

He sighed before saying with a trace of sadness in his voice, "Mom… My expectations aren't that high. I just don't want my marriage to become a bargaining chip, like what happened with you and Dad…"
