When Queenie flew across the skies of Solara in that plane, Isabella and Theodore were watering plants in the garden.
Agnes emerged from the house with Isabella's phone in her hands. Light-heartedly, she said, "Mrs. Sinclair, your phone rang earlier. I was busy, so I didn't hear it. I think they've called a number of times. You might want to check who it is."
Isabella turned around with a gleeful smile on her face. She asked, "Agnes, could you have a look and see who it is?"
Agnes glanced at the screen, then answered, "It's an unknown number. Could it just be a telemarketing call?"
Perplexed, Isabella handed the water hose in her hands to Theodore, who took it from her very naturally. She walked toward Agnes, saying, "Here, let me have a look…"
Agnes advanced toward Isabella too. After handing Isabella's phone to her, she went over to give Theodore a hand.
Agnes and Ruth were both transferred from the Sinclair residence to look after Theodore after his return to the country. Back when Jeffrey was still around, they used to work for him. In some ways, they had watched Theodore grow up, yet they had never seen him doing these chores.
When Theodore was young, he was like a learning machine. Jeffrey's expectations of him were high. After getting home from school, he attended classes endlessly. Of course, he didn't have time to do anything else.
"I'll do it, Mr. Sinclair. You should go ahead and get changed," Agnes urged.
It was only when Theodore lowered his head that he noticed the wet patch on his pants. That was probably Isabella's handiwork from earlier.
Agnes was aware of Theodore's slightly germaphobic nature. However, he actually said, "No worries. I'll get changed after I'm done with all these here."
When he said that, his eyes were fixed on Isabella as she spoke on the phone. When he saw her furrowing her brows, a serious look came across his face too.
When he saw her lower her phone, he handed the water hose in his hands over to Agnes, then hurried anxiously toward Isabella. Before she even said anything, he asked, "What happened?"
Isabella turned toward him with a deep frown on her face. A tinge of panic had appeared in her eyes.
When she spoke, her voice trembled slightly without her even realizing it. "Giselle… is gone…"
Theodore walked up to Isabella and took her hands in his. The warmth from his palms brought instant comfort to her as her blood had run cold.
She gradually found her own voice. She explained, "That was Margaret. She claimed that I hurt her daughter, and she was crying on the phone the whole time. I was so annoyed by her cries that I wanted to just hang up on her, but I was really curious about what happened to Giselle.
However, that was almost impossible because Margaret loved Giselle very much. There was no way she would condemn her own daughter like this just for the sake of money.
That said, how did Giselle lose her life out of the blue when she was still fine just two days ago? Also, what was with Margaret's phone call? What did Giselle's death have to do with Isabella herself?
All of a sudden, she shuddered. She turned her head abruptly toward Theodore.
When he sensed her glancing at him, he peered at her briefly too, his eyes full of concern. Then, he directed his attention back to the road ahead as he asked, "What's wrong?"
In a slightly cold voice, Isabella said, "Giselle went to see Queenie two days ago. Queenie was the one who paid Giselle to call me to meet with me previously. Giselle had a bracelet of mine, the only thing that my biological parents left for me. That's why I went to meet her that day even though I knew it was a trap.
"Giselle came to see me after that, saying that Queenie wasn't willing to pay her the remaining amount she was owed. I was quite amused by that. They joined hands to set me up but ended up tearing at one another.
"I didn't want to miss such a spectacle, so I told Giselle which hotel Queenie was staying at."
Theodore's frown deepened. Nonetheless, he comforted Isabella gently, saying, "Don't overthink it for now. I'll get Caleb to look into this right now."
