Cheated Once Cherished Forever: The Billionaire's Bride novel Chapter 125

When Isabella and Theodore arrived at the Moore residence, the former went over to knock on the door. However, no one came to open the door even after a few knocks.

So, Isabella gave up on waiting. She pulled aside a potted plant by the door—the one that looked like it had been left to wither for quite some time. She remembered that this plant had already died before she even moved out. She couldn't even remember what plant it was. Yet, it had not been moved away.

This was probably where the key was hidden. As expected, she saw a backup key after moving the pot aside.

The moment she opened the door, she froze. The cramped living room was filled with trash and all kinds of furniture that had been smashed. It looked like a storm had torn through the place.

Isabella and Theodore exchanged a glance, unsure of where to set foot.

Then, they heard a weak voice. "Who are you? Who's there?"

It was Margaret's voice.

Isabella glanced toward the source of the voice, only to realize that there was a foot sticking out from behind the couch. Someone was trying her very best to get to her feet.

"Giselle… Is that you, Giselle? My precious… Oh, my precious daughter…"

The moment Margaret mentioned Giselle's name, she seemed to gain a surge of energy that shot her to her feet.

When a haggard-looking woman with disheveled hair appeared, Isabella couldn't believe that this woman before her eyes was Margaret.

Even though Margaret had a sharp tongue and a bad temper, she was someone who loved dressing up on the regular. No matter how stingy she might be, she would spend ten dollars on a cheap lipstick just to doll herself up.

But now, she was actually standing there in her pajamas, with her hair unbrushed and face unwashed and bare.

Instinctively, Isabella scanned the room but saw no sign of Richard.

"Isabella? It's you! How dare you come here, you bitch?" Margaret roared with anger. She grabbed something that was conveniently within reach and hurled it in Isabella's direction. Theodore extended his arm and pulled Isabella into his arms. At the same time, he lifted his other hand to hit the item away.

A loud clang sounded. It was only after Isabella lifted her eyes to look that she realized that it was actually a stainless steel bowl.

"Are you okay? How's your hand? Let me see your hand."

Margaret grabbed whatever was within her reach and hurled it in Isabella and Theodore's direction. Theodore had no other choice but to shield Isabella as they retreated toward the door.

When they got to the door, he pressed his feet against the frame of the door, shielding Isabella completely behind him while staring coldly at Margaret, who continued to make a scene indoors.

When a glass was swept across the floor into a corner, shards flew up into the air. Margaret stumbled and fell among the trash, all while still pointing at Isabella. "You're such a jinx. I should've abandoned you back then. Are you happy now that I've lost my daughter?"

Isabella peered from behind Theodore. When she saw how anguished Margaret was, all the hatred within her vanished, replaced by a sense of calmness.

"Margaret, I didn't cause Giselle's death. There's no need for me to lie to you either. If you're going to continue making a fuss like this, we'll leave right now, and don't you ever think of finding out who she was in touch with or what happened recently."

Isabella's words extinguished Margaret's rage instantly. She froze to the spot. From behind her unkempt hair that plastered all across her face, she stared fixedly at Isabella with her bloodshot eyes.

After much hesitation, she cried out, "W-What do you mean? Giselle had only interacted with you in the past few days. Who else could it be if not you? You were the one who killed Giselle, you wicked woman!"

Isabella frowned. She asked, "Are you saying that Giselle was murdered?"
