When Isabella walked out of the office after work, she immediately spotted Theodore's car. Caleb wasn't around, so Theodore had driven himself and was waiting in the car.

Isabella walked to him and got in the front passenger seat. "Why are you here to pick me? You aren't busy today?"

He handed her a cup of milk tea he had just bought, which she happily accepted. Work was tough, and a sweet treat after hours was just what she needed.

As Theodore started the car, he said, "We're having dinner with the Logans."

Isabella paused mid-sip and looked up in surprise. "Is it because of Alexander calling off the engagement?"

Theodore stared straight ahead, tapping his fingers lightly on the steering wheel. His tone was calm yet firm. "Yes, but not completely."

Isabella tightened her grip on the cup, and her straw scraped against the side. "There's something else?"

She got the feeling that with Theodore's personality, he wouldn't make a point to meet the Logan family just to call off an engagement. He probably had other plans.

"The Logan family is currently in talks with Sinclair Group over a plot of land in the east of the city." He stepped on the accelerator, and the car smoothly slid into the traffic. "Calling off the engagement could easily strain things between our families, so this meal is a way to clear the air, ensuring it doesn't hold Alexander back or affect the cooperation."

The realization dawned on Isabella. Then, she remembered her call with Alexander earlier in the day. After some hesitation, she said, "I called Alexander to ask him about a project today, and he…"

She trailed off, not knowing how to describe the flirtatious conversation.

Theodore glanced at her and noticed the turmoil in her eyes. He raised an eyebrow and asked, "What's wrong with him?"

"It's nothing. He'll be at the dinner, right?" Isabella asked.

"Yeah. This is his mess, so he'll need to clean it up himself."

Isabella sighed. Though she and Natalie had only met once, she could tell the latter was a good woman. She was a fantastic match for Alexander, whether in terms of looks or family background.

Isabella's phone rang just then. She had nothing to contribute to the conversation, so she left the room to take the call. It was a call from the police to let her know that there was some progress on Giselle's case.

She turned to return to the private room after ending the call, but she saw a familiar face when she looked up. It was Jessie, and she was wearing the uniform that hotel employees wore.

Isabella stopped in surprise and waited for Jessie to approach. What was she doing there?

"Jessie? What are you…"

Jessie nodded respectfully. "Good evening, ma'am."

"What are you doing here?" Isabella asked in astonishment.

Jessie's attitude remained respectful and professional as she answered softly, "It's all thanks to you that I've fallen to the point of working as a server, ma'am. Would I be here if you hadn't blacklisted me from the industry?"
