Cheated Once Cherished Forever: The Billionaire's Bride novel Chapter 160

Alexander started with a scolding.

Isabella blinked, looking at him in confusion.

He looked genuinely angry. He had managed to keep his composure earlier when dealing with that group of gossiping men, but now, he was visibly upset.

She put on a stern expression when she heard Alexander question her.

"When someone insults you like that, don't you know to talk back? This is an office. If you can't out-argue them, then make a scene! The bigger, the better. What, were you just going to stand there like a statue?" he snapped.

Isabella fell silent.

Alexander wanted to scold her a bit more, but seeing her standing there so quietly, something in his chest tightened. He didn't know how to console someone.

He just felt frustrated, and ultimately, all he could manage was, "Do you want breakfast?"

Isabella thought he was asking her to help buy breakfast. Considering he had just helped her, she kindly asked, "Mr. Sinclair, what would you like to eat today? I'll go get it now."

That only made his mood worse. Why did she always think he only ordered her around? Couldn't he care about her for once?

"Isabella, you're my secretary—not my servant! I was asking what you would like to eat so I could buy it for you," Alexander said.

After a pause, he added, "I'm going to get breakfast. I can pick something up for you while I'm at it."

Even though he made it sound casual, Isabella was still surprised. "No need, Mr. Sinclair. I've already eaten."

It was rare for Alexander to show any initiative in caring for her. When she didn't appreciate it, his pride stung.

Luckily, his phone rang at the right time. But seeing Amelia's name flashing on the screen only added to his frustration.

As soon as the call connected, Laura's anxious voice came through the receiver. "Mr. Sinclair! Please come back quickly! Mrs. Sinclair has fainted!"

Alexander immediately grew tense upon hearing the news. As he strode toward the elevator, he pressed on, "What happened? How could she suddenly faint like that? I'm coming back right now. Have you called a doctor..."

Isabella didn't catch the rest of the conversation, but she guessed that the reason Alexander was so anxious was probably because something had happened to Amelia.

Did Amelia faint?

Seeing his silence, Layla joked, "It seems Mr. Sinclair doesn't quite like me."

Just as she was about to pull her hand back, Alexander suddenly stepped forward and took it. "Hello, Ms. York. My name is Alexander."

Amelia's smile widened until she could barely contain it. "I see that you two get along quite well. Alexander, how about this? Ms. York is about to catch her flight soon, so why don't you drive her to the airport?"

"Mom, I still have work..." Alexander looked at Amelia with displeasure.

Although he thought Layla resembled Isabella, it was only a physical resemblance. They were two different individuals, and what he liked about Isabella was who she was, not just her appearance.

Layla, sensing the awkwardness, smiled warmly. "It's alright. I've already called a cab, so Mr. Sinclair can go ahead with his work. Next time I'm back, maybe we can arrange to meet if there's time."

When Layla smiled, she resembled Isabella even more, leaving Alexander momentarily stunned.

When Amelia saw the look on his face, she felt there might be a chance. Not wanting to push too hard and ruin it, she said, "Alright, Ms. York. My son here can be a workaholic sometimes. What can I say, he's very career-driven.

"Why don't you exchange numbers first? You young people have your own ways of staying in touch. I won't interfere!"
