"Because you're pure," Theodore said.
Isabella looked at him, trying to decipher his meaning, but she remained confused. She had never been able to read him.
At this moment, he said again, "Bella, I chose you because I didn't want a complicated partner for a contract marriage. But later on, I genuinely fell for you. If you're willing, our marriage can be permanent. I won't be the one to end it."
Isabella stared blankly at Theodore, feeling a bit dazed. She wondered if Theodore was actually confessing his feelings to her. He said he liked her, but she wondered exactly how deep that affection went.
Suddenly, Theodore's phone rang, the sharp sound breaking the tension in the ward.
"Mr. Sinclair…" Caleb's nervous voice came through the receiver.
Theodore knew Caleb well. If something major had not happened, Caleb would not speak in that tone.
"Speak."
"Mrs. Sinclair's adoptive mother… is dead."
Theodore's expression darkened instantly. He questioned in a cold voice, "What happened?"
Caleb replied, "It was those people. We didn't expect them to be so bold. They actually dare to take a life!"
Theodore had ordered Richard and Margaret to be handed over to their creditors. His goal was merely to teach them a lesson.
If not for the fact that they were Isabella's adoptive parents, his methods would have been even more ruthless. However, precisely because they were her parents, Theodore had not wished for either of them to die.
Caleb continued, "Richard has disappeared. I've already subdued the people from the casino. How should we handle them?"
Theodore walked out of the ward. Only after the door clicked shut did he ask, "Where's the body?"
Caleb replied, "Still in the casino. The incident has caused a huge commotion. The cops are arriving soon, so we can't move it."
