Amelia said angrily, "You have to go! Theodore's not here, and if you skip this, what will people think? Isabella, don't forget that you're still Theodore's fiancée."
"Amelia, you can see I'm injured," Isabella said, leaning back in exhaustion.
Amelia glanced at the bandages around Isabella's foot and sneered. "Looks like you're practically back on your feet."
Isabella replied flatly, "Not even close."
Amelia mocked her. "I can have someone wheel you around if you like."
Isabella's expression hardened.
Just then, Emma walked in, dressed in a sharp suit, her black Oxfadian heels clicking against the floor, the sound instantly breaking the tension in the ward.
"Ms. Milarky, long time no see."
"Oh, it's Ms. Collins, right?" Amelia saw Emma placing a food container on the bedside table and snickered, "A senior secretary, and now you're a caretaker?"
Emma smiled politely, her voice calm. "Ms. Milarky, thanks for the flattery. As long as the pay is good, I'd be happy to do anything, even sweep the streets."
Amelia scoffed, "Well, if that's the case, make me an offer, and I'll hire you to be Alexander's secretary."
Emma's expression remained steady. "I'm afraid that's not possible."
Amelia's face turned cold. "Didn't you just say that you'd do anything as long as the pay is good? What? Are you looking down on him?"
Emma remained composed. "I have great respect for your son. He's very talented. I'm not switching jobs simply because Mr. Theodore pays generously enough to keep me where I am."
Amelia didn't buy it. She knew getting Emma on her side would be a long shot, so she didn't press it further.
Isabella smiled lightly, her voice calm as she looked at Emma. "Ms. Collins, would you do me the favor of showing her out?"
Amelia shot a furious look at Isabella, but Emma stepped forward, blocking her view and motioning politely. "Ms. Milarky, let me show you out."
Amelia was fuming. Emma and Isabella had completely thrown her off, but for now, Isabella was still Theodore's wife. She couldn't make a move. Gritting her teeth, she thought that once Alexander officially took over, the first thing she'd do was push Isabella out for good, making sure she could never flirt with him again.
"Isabella, enjoy your little victory while it lasts!"
She stormed off, her anger bubbling over. As the door closed behind her, Emma's professional smile disappeared. She turned to Isabella with concern.
"Mrs. Sinclair, are you alright?"
Isabella nodded and sat up, her face full of worry. "There's something off about Alexander rushing into an engagement like this. Ms. Collins, have you had any luck reaching Theodore?"
