When Alexander walked out of his office and saw Isabella still sitting there, he couldn't help but frown after looking at the time. "Are you not eating dinner?"
Without lifting her head, she replied flatly, "I don't want to spend the whole night here, so I'm saving time by not eating."
For some reason, her words irritated him, and he couldn't even explain why.
"Go eat. If you faint from hunger in the office, people will think our company is overworking its employees."
At that, Isabella finally looked up and glared at him. After all these years, his tongue was still just as vicious. Didn't he ever worry she'd poison him?
Not bothering to argue, she opened her drawer and took out a bag of fast food. With a touch of sarcasm, she said, "Don't worry about me, Mr. Sinclair. I have this."
Alexander's frown deepened. If he guessed correctly, that bag of food was his leftover breakfast. He was stunned that she hadn't thrown it away.
"Isabella, who are you putting on this act for?" His voice was cold and filled with fury.
Confusion clouded her gaze as she stared at him. The moment their eyes locked, a strange jolt shot through him, and he looked away instantly.
When he spoke again, his voice was trembling. "Why did you keep my leftovers? What are you trying to do?"
Upon hearing this, Isabella's eyes widened in shock.
But before she could respond, he turned on his heel toward the door and instructed, "Come with me!"
She didn't want to follow him, but he was her superior. For that 30 thousand dollars salary, she decided to put up with him.
By the time Isabella saved her files, Alexander was already waiting inside the elevators. His long legs carried him so quickly that she had to jog to catch up. Once the door shut and they were both trapped in that confined space, she couldn't help but feel awkward.
At that moment, the elevator doors slid open. Isabella held one hand against it and forced a smile. "After you, Mr. Sinclair."
Alexander stepped out after shooting her a look. Then, through the receiver, he heard Theodore's commanding voice tinged with disapproval. "Alex, I gave you the Silvershore branch because I want you to learn independence. Keep your focus on your work."
Alexander frowned, but before he could ask anything more, Theodore had already hung up.
"Mr. Sinclair," a voice called out.
Both he and Isabella turned toward the entrance, where a security guard approached them, smiling broadly and holding a thermal lunch box.
"Mr. Sinclair, your fiancee just dropped this off for you. She knew you were still working late, so she didn't want to disturb you and asked me to deliver it instead."
