Isabella and Theodore walked out of the hospital and got into the car, with the former remaining silent the entire time.
Instead of starting the engine, Theodore reached his hand out and took Isabella's hand in his, caressing the back of her hand gently.
"I'm sorry, Bella," he said.
Isabella shook her head while smiling. She said, "No need to apologize. You said that you wanted to get that bouquet of flowers, but Ms. Klein threw your kind gesture into the trash. That's none of my business."
He gazed at her as if he had more he wanted to say. However, his phone rang out. Although it was the weekend, he seemed to be very occupied with all these incoming calls.
He answered his phone. Whatever the caller said made his expression turn darker and his frown deepen. "Now isn't the time to point fingers!" he reprimanded in a restrained voice.
Urgently, he continued, "Email me the backup proposal right now. I'm calling for an emergency meeting in half an hour. We have to curb our losses no matter what!"
By the time he ended the call, his knuckles had turned white from how hard he was clenching his phone. Even though his anxiousness was still visible on his face when he turned toward Isabella, he softened his tone intentionally. "There's a work emergency. I need to make a trip to the office."
Isabella nodded, subconsciously fiddling with the buckle of her seatbelt. Softly, she replied, "No worries. Go ahead with what you need to do. I'll flag a cab to get back home."
Theodore, however, held onto his car keys. He leaned over and buckled her back in. When his fingers brushed against her wrist unintentionally, his touch brought with it an urgent sense of reassurance. "Come with me to the office," he urged.
Isabella was dumbfounded. She lifted her eyes to look at him, but he had already started the engine and made the decision for her.
"It's the weekend anyway. Plus, it's the project at Silvershore that we're facing issues with. You might even be able to help."
Isabella widened her eyes in surprise. "Which project is it? What's the problem?"
Theodore tightened his grasp on the steering wheel as he fixed his eyes on the traffic up ahead. His tone deepened slightly as he answered, "It's the design plan for Riverside Cultural and Creative Park, which you people at Silvershore handed over to us last Friday.
"There are errors with the data for the core landscape map. If it's not fixed by tonight, the final review with our partner tomorrow will have to be suspended. The penalty for breaking the contract is almost ten million dollars."
Isabella's heart dropped. The landscape part of the proposal was handled by Alexander personally. She had even helped him with cross-checking the basic data during the handover last week. She hadn't noticed anything wrong at the time.
She subconsciously clenched her hands into fists, and her voice took on a note of urgency. "There are errors with the data? Is the issue with the parameters, or is it with the modeling? Is Alexander aware of this yet?"
"He is. This issue was discovered the day you picked him up at the bar. He's put in a lot of effort into this project, yet he didn't resolve the issues that came up. Instead, he went to get drinks! How could he possibly take over the Sinclair family with skills like this?"
"Come with me."
Theodore took her by the hand naturally, the warmth of his grasp alleviating some of the anxiousness Isabella felt.
The pair headed for the CEO's personal elevator. The moment the elevator doors opened on the designated floor, they saw Emma, dressed in workwear, waiting for them with a pile of documents in her arms. When she saw Theodore, she gave him a courteous nod right away.
"Mr. Sinclair, the technical department just sent in their initial analysis. According to them, the coordinates on the landscape map don't match the original CAD file, so they suspect that the wrong version was handed over."
Isabella's chest tightened. Immediately, she said, "Alexander and I cross-checked the version number during the handover. Version 3.2 is the final version. How could there be an error?"
She remembered checking the document's properties at the time. There certainly couldn't have been a slip-up like this.
Theodore took a quick glance at her, then said to Emma, "Send all the backup documents from Silvershore's handover to my email, and get the technical department to retrieve the original CAD file. I'll cross-check them now."
Upon saying that, he led Isabella into his office by the hand. When he pushed the door open, he added, "There's a couch in there. Have a seat for now. Emma, make a warm drink for Isabella."
It was only at this moment that Emma stepped out of work mode. She smiled slightly at Isabella as she asked, "What would you like to drink, Mrs. Sinclair?"
