Following the attendant, Vanessa walked through the luxurious lobby, down a long corridor lined with plush gray carpeting, and finally stepped out onto the sprawling, open greens of the golf course.
Looking out, the perfectly manicured emerald fairway stretched as far as the eye could see. The warm breeze carried the crisp scent of fresh grass and sunlight, while a distant lake shimmered brilliantly in the quiet, expansive landscape.
After following the winding stone path for a few minutes, she spotted a tall, striking silhouette in the distance.
Dressed in crisp, minimalist white golf attire, Alistair stood tall in the practice bay, lining up a shot.
His swing was incredibly fluid—a perfect marriage of raw power and lethal elegance. At the apex of his swing, his broad shoulders flexed effortlessly. His gaze was terrifyingly focused and calm, radiating an easy, untouchable dominance.
The bright sunlight caught the sharp, angular planes of his profile, casting his deep-set eyes in shadow. It stripped away some of the ruthless, corporate ice he normally carried, replacing it with a mesmerizing warmth.
What was he doing here?
Vanessa froze a few yards away, hesitating to interrupt.
"My nephew cleans up well, doesn't he?"
A deep, amused voice suddenly came from right beside her.
She snapped her attention away from the fairway, turning her head to meet the older man's smiling eyes.
"He is... very handsome. But didn't you say it would just be you, Mr. Howard?"
If she had known Alistair was going to be here, she would have invented an excuse to completely dodge this date.
It wasn't that she was terrified of him, she just felt insanely on edge around him!
"I tried, but Alistair has always clung to me since he was a kid. If he wants to tag along, I really don't have the heart to say no," Ben chuckled. "I hope you don't mind the extra company, Ms. Grant?"
"..."
She was already standing here. Was she supposed to say yes?
She couldn't exactly demand he kick the man out.
"Do you have an issue with my nephew, Ms. Grant?" Ben narrowed his eyes, a highly entertained smirk tugging at his lips.
Vanessa rushed to defend herself. "Not at all. Your nephew and I only just met last night. We barely know each other..."
Alistair finished his swing and turned around, casually strolling over just in time to catch her exact words. He let out a dark, mocking drawl.
"Right. We barely know each other at all."
