Minutes ticked by, but the transfer notification still hadn't arrived.
Giselle clutched her phone, anxiety eating at her.
The warmth faded from Victor's face. He checked his watch, his tone darkening. "Giselle, this delay is making things difficult for me. You're not the only one eyeing these stones. Other buyers have already started pressing me. I can give you twenty more minutes at most. If the money isn't here by then, I'll have to sell to someone else."
"Mr. Vance, please wait! It's definitely just a bank delay. The money will be here any second!" Giselle urged frantically.
"I've been in this business long enough to know exactly how long bank delays take," Victor replied coldly, offering no sympathy. "I suggest you call and hurry them up."
"If you're not serious about this, don't hold up the line and waste everyone's time."
His words hit Giselle like a heavy stone.
Staring at the vibrant green stone on the table, she turned her phone back on and immediately called finance to demand answers.
"What the hell is going on? Did the transfer go through or not?"
Before she had left the office, she had personally watched them initiate the transfer.
Given the time it took to drive to Victor's villa, it should have cleared ages ago!
The accountant stammered, avoiding a direct answer.
Giselle gritted her teeth, spat out a warning, and hung up. She turned back to Victor with a strained smile. "Mr. Vance, please be patient. The money is coming!"
This was her only chance to turn the tables.
Another half hour passed with no sign of the funds.
Victor lost his patience. "It seems you hold zero authority in your own company, Giselle. Even a low-level accountant doesn't take you seriously!"
Giselle's face flushed. She tried calling finance again, but the line wouldn't connect. Remembering the accountant's earlier stuttering, she realized they were definitely hiding something from her.
"Mr. Vance, let me make one more call!"
