Vanessa was stunned for a moment before leaning in to drop a kiss on his cheek.
"Mr. Howard showing up means you wanted me to use your influence."
She had rushed downstairs in a panic to save Giselle, terrified that Victor would take her away.
She never expected Victor to be so brazen, boldly threatening to drag Giselle off in a public setting. If Alistair hadn't appeared, both she and Giselle would have suffered tonight.
"You're my woman now. There's no reason for you to be stepped on or bullied. If word got out, it would look terrible on me."
Alistair reached up, his long fingers gently playing with her soft earlobe. The tender motion made her heart race, sending butterflies erupting in her chest.
Her breathing hitched as the atmosphere in the car grew thick with seductive tension.
"So, is this because I'm your woman, or because of your pride, Mr. Howard?" Vanessa asked, her lips curving upward. Some questions demanded clear answers.
Surprised by the question, Alistair raised an eyebrow. His deep, predatory gaze darkened, pulling her in like a magnetic force.
He gently pressed his thumb against the nape of her neck, pulling her close until their foreheads rested together. The moment their eyes met, even their breathing turned aggressively intimate.
A low chuckle rumbled in his throat. "Because of the former, obviously. I don't extend my protection to just anyone."
"Then I'm truly honored," Vanessa smiled.
"So, shouldn't Miss Grant change how she addresses me?" Alistair asked, his voice low and mesmerizing.
"Change to what? I think Mr. Howard sounds perfectly fine." She let out a soft laugh. "Or do you want me to call you my boyfriend?"
"Call me Ace, or..." He paused, a teasing glint in his dark eyes. "Alistair?"
"..."
Remembering the heated moments when he had pinned her down, forcing her to gasp out his name at the height of their passion, her face flushed crimson. A wave of embarrassment washed over her.
