After washing up, she grabbed a quick bite at a nearby café before taking her time heading to the office.
Familiar with the routine, she took the elevator straight to the executive suite on the top floor.
Pushing open the door, she saw that George wasn't alone.
Giselle sat demurely on the sofa, her gaze practically gleaming with schadenfreude as Vanessa walked in.
"You wanted to see me, Dad?"
She walked over to the desk, her expression perfectly composed.
The moment she spoke, she realized her voice was painfully hoarse.
"Are you coming down with a cold?"
George looked up, concern etching his features.
"...A little. I think I caught a chill last night," Vanessa quickly improvised.
George looked at her suspiciously. "Where were you last night?"
"I ran into a friend, and we had dinner. It got late, so I just crashed at her place."
"What kind of friend? A man or a woman?"
It seemed Giselle had indeed run to their father to tattle.
Thank god that infuriating man had enough restraint not to leave any visible marks on her neck last night.
"A man. It's completely normal for me to have male friends, isn't it? Didn't Giselle attend the event with a man last night too?" Vanessa sighed, feigning hurt. "Her date even helped her try to frame me."
"Vanessa, stop making things up!"
Giselle jumped up, looking frantic. "Dad, Malcom's mother and my mother are close friends. You've met him—he's polite, refined, and modest. He would never do something like that."
Afraid the media would leak the incident, Giselle had begged her mother to buy off the journalists and acquire the footage.
"You can never truly know someone just by looking at them. Some people seem polite on the surface but are completely selfish in reality. When his lies were exposed last night, he turned on you without a second thought. Have you really not learned your lesson yet?"
Vanessa's tone was calm and measured, lending her an undeniable credibility.
