Charlotte swept her gaze around the table. Everyone was basically sunk into their own

conversations.

So she nodded. “Okay.”

The moment she sat down, the server brought over warm water, just as Nathan had

requested.

Charlotte held the cup, her mood still low.

Nathan said, “The people you recommended-I spoke to them all personally.”

Charlotte pulled her thoughts back. “I know. They called me. I told them there’s nothing

wrong with aiming higher.”

Nathan’s expression brightened. “Right now, Mr. Russell’s Power Tech is a level above

our Cloudstart Tech.”

Charlotte let out a dismissive snort. “Matthew does have management skills. But when it Chapter Unlocked, Enjoy Reading! comes to tech, he’s not that strong. If these past few years hadn’t been propped up by

those R&D teams working overtime day and night, pushing out a few Al systems and

rolling them into the market… maybe…”

“…it would still be that no-name tech company from years ago.”

Nathan said, “Then I guess half of the credit should be yours.”

Charlotte smiled bitterly.

She used to think that if she protected what Matthew cared about, she could protect him,

too.

In reality, she did keep him.

But his love? She had never gotten it.

Nathan asked, “What are you planning to do next?”

Charlotte glanced at Ruby and didn’t speak.

Charlotte couldn’t hold it in. “Then I’ll take Ruby, and you take Gordon.”

Nathan rejected it without thinking. “No.”

Charlotte froze. “Huh?”

Nathan suggested, “I’ll leave my car here. We’ll use your car to drop them off. After that,

I’ll come back and get my car myself.”

She caught the softness in the word “myself.”

He had no wish to trouble her at all.

Charlotte didn’t argue. “We’ll do it your way.”

Nathan helped Gordon into the car first.

When it was Ruby’s turn, he looked at her for a long moment.

“Ruby isn’t usually like that. She really did drink too much today.”
