I couldn’t sleep.
My eyes stayed glued to Daisy’s face, watching as sleep took her. Soon after Val followed and I tried too, but I couldn’t. My body was wired, my mind racing with the events of the night and what had been said.
But the worst of all, I was afraid to go to sleep in case I woke up from a nightmare and accidentally ended up hurting Daisy.
The nightmares always hit unexpectedly. Sometimes I was lucky enough to go days without them. I knew that the moment I closed my eyes the demons would sneak up on me.
I could feel it.
And it was all because Dad Logan had opened the door I kept tightly locked.
I didn’t want to think about the past, but I couldn’t help it.
To top it all up, my mind has been filling up with doubts about our relationship with Daisy. I couldn’t help but wonder if maybe they were right.
What if my bond with Daisy is stronger than her bond with my brothers just because we spend too much time together?
What if she secretly blames me for what happened back then?
What if my scars actually repulse her?
By midnight I gave up and got out of bed. I made myself a cup of coffee and then headed into Alex’s office. Switching on the lamp, I took a seat and switched on the computer.
Leaning back in the chair, I pulled open the bottom drawer and reached inside for the file where I put all my
notes in.
While I waited for the computer to boot, I put on my glasses and started reading over the last notes I made a few days ago.
Focusing on something else made the doubts fade to the back of my mind.
“Elias?”
My body jerked in fright, eyes snapping up to the doorway.
“Daisy, why aren’t you sleeping?” I asked her.
She didn’t answer me immediately.
My eyes dropped to her hand where she was clutching her phone tightly, the flashlight illuminating the darkness in the hall behind her.
“Flower?”
“I woke up and you were gone,” she said softly. “Did I do anything wrong when we…had sex?”
1/6
I frowned at her. “No. What makes you think that?”
“You left.”
“I couldn’t sleep,” I told her. “Come here flower.”
Daisy took a step forward and then froze. I couldn’t see her face, but I wish I could so I could figure out what she was thinking. Raising her hand, she used the flashlight as guidance to hurry over to my desk.
Pushing the chair back, I gripped her wrist and tugged her onto my lap.
“I didn’t want to wake you,” I said softly. “So I got up.”
Her eyes darted over my face and then to the computer.
“What are you doing?”
I moved the chair closer to the desk again. “Writing.
As Daisy leaned forward, I took her phone from her hand and switched off the flashlight. The moment it was off, Daisy tensed. Panicked eyes darted to me.
I placed her phone on the desk and pulled her against my chest. “It’s okay,” I told her. “There’s nothing to be afraid of in the dark.”
“I don’t like it,” she muttered.
“Because of what happened?”
She nodded.
I swallowed and hesitated a moment. “I want to ask you something.”
Daisy wrapped an arm around my neck and got more comfortable. Hooking a few strands of hair behind her ear,
I placed my hand on her knee and searched her face.
“Can I ask you something? Something about the kidnapping?”
Her teeth sunk into her lip, eyes lowering to my chest. After a few minutes, she nodded.
“Will you tell me what happened when they took you?” I asked her.
She didn’t answer me immediately.
“I was at school,” she said so softly I almost missed it. “My mom was supposed to pick me up. I was sitting there, watching as all the other kids got picked up by their parents.”
“She was late?”
“She never showed and the teacher couldn’t get a hold of her. And then a black SUV showed up and the driver told her that John had sent him to pick me up.”
A shudder raced through her body.
“She didn’t even call him to confirm. Just handed me over to the man and waved me off.”

I pressed my cheek to the top of her head and rubbed her leg soothingly while I waited for her to continue.
“There was another man in the back. He was ordered to tie me up and blindfold me.” Daisy swallowed loudly. “I …I tried to fight him, but he was too big. He pulled a bag over my head and tied my hands and feet. I felt the sting of a needle as it pierced my skin and that was the last thing I remembered.”
“You were just a kid,” I muttered.
“W–when I woke up the bag had been removed, but my hands and feet were still tied. They locked me in a small, dark closet and kept me there until the meeting was set with John.”
I licked my lips as I thought over my words carefully. “Did they ever hurt you while you were locked up in the dark in the closet?”
Daisy frowned. “It was like they forgot me there.”
“Never talked to you? Opened the door to give you food and water?”
A small shake of her head.
My heart constricted in my chest. It took almost a week before the police were alerted about the kidnapping and the money they were demanding. It took another week for a meeting to be set up so the money could be handed
over.
“If they didn’t hurt you…why are you afraid of the dark then?”
Daisy blinked at me, but she didn’t answer the question. I expected her to have an answer to the question. Her eyes darted around the room and then locked with mine again.
“It reminds me of them.” she finally whispered. “Of being locked in the dark and forgotten.”
I pressed a kiss to the top of her head. “You can never be forgotten, flower.”
She said nothing.
I studied her for a few seconds before I turned my attention to the screen. After rereading the part I wrote last, I continued where I left off.
“I don’t want to get pregnant,” Daisy blurted, making me freeze.
“You’re on the shot. As long as you take it on time every three months, there’s no way you’ll get pregnant.”
“Erika said that the suppressants might mess with the birth control.”
I tensed. “You should have mentioned that before we had sex.”
“I…I forgot.” Colour flooded her cheeks. “You make me forget everything when you touch me.”
I smiled. “That’s good to hear, flower,” I muttered against her ear. “Now I know what to do to make you stop thinking.”
Daisy turned her head and brushed her lips against mine in a brief kiss. “I’m scared.”
My nose brushed hers as I leaned my forehead against hers. I wasn’t going to admit it to her, but so was I.

“You look sexy with your glasses.”
It was my turn to blush.
Sliding my hand to the back of her neck, I pulled her lips to mine. Daisy squirmed, a moan falling from her lips when I squeezed her ass. Pulling away, I pressed my face to the crook of her neck and breathed in her scent.
She smelled like all of us. 3
“What are you writing?”
I cleared my throat. “A novel.”
“A sexy, smutty novel?”
Chuckling, I picked up the file and handed it over to her. I stared at her face, trying to figure out what she was thinking while she read over my notes.
“How many books have you written?” she asked.
I hesitated. “Five in a series, this is the last book. I write under a pen name because I don’t want anyone to know my real identity.”
“Oh.”
“Oh,” I repeated with a smile.
“What genre is it?” she asked after a while.
I hesitated. “Murder Mystery.”
She bit her lip. “Have you ever written about us?”
“No.”
Her eyes darted over my face. “You wanted to.”
I nodded. “But it felt wrong to do that because it’s not just my story to tell.”
Swallowing, she placed the file down and settled against my chest again. A sigh fell from her lips as her body slowly relaxed against mine.
“Do you have any copies of your books?”
“No.”
“Why?”
I brushed my lips against her forehead. “Because I don’t want any.”
“I want to read it.”
“Okay.”
“You’re not going to tell me your pen name are you?”
4/6
My smile widened. “Nope.”
“I’ll figure it out,” Daisy promised softly.
“I’m sure you will,” I muttered as I started typing.
“You know, it’ll be a lot easier if you just tell me,” she muttered.
“It would.”
Another sigh fell from her lips.
“I’m sorry I ruined your night with your parents.”
“You didn’t.”
“They left early.”
“They usually do.”
Daisy sat up and turned slightly to look at me. “I lied to them,” she said softly. “About not being poor. I didn’t want them to think that I’m after your money.”
“They don’t think that,” I hastily reassured her. “They are protective after what happened with the woman I dated before the accident. They don’t want that to happen again and they fear it will because we’re connected by what happened.”
“Do you think that it will cause problems in our relationship?”
I looked away, unsure whether to answer her truthfully or lie about it. We wanted a relationship, but Daisy didn’t want one. What was the use of talking about these things if she wasn’t planning on staying as our omega?
“I don’t hate you or blame you for what happened, Elias.” She cupped my cheeks and leaned closer until her nose brushed mine. “I know it was my fault. I know that if I hadn’t tried to run away, they would never have-”
“You were just a little girl flower,” I interrupted her. “I’m certain that if anything was done differently, it would still have ended the same.‘
>>
“I don’t think so,” she whispered.
“You need to stop blaming yourself for what happened, Daisy.”
“But you do. You blame yourself.”
I pursed my lips.
“I’m sorry,” Daisy apologized. “I don’t want us to fight.”
“We’re not fighting, flower. Just having a little disagreement.” I soothed my hands over her hair. “Why don’t you go back to bed and try to get some more sleep?”
Daisy hesitated, but after a few minutes, she nodded. I kissed her and then pulled away to hand her the phone with the flashlight switched on.

“Can’t I stay?”
I blinked at her.
She buried her face against my neck. “I want to stay.”
“Okay,” I said after a moment.
I pulled her closer and settled back in the chair again.
