“Good morning, how are you feeling?”
My eyes darted around the kitchen, searching but only finding David seated at the table. I could have sworn I smelled Alex’s scent on the pillow when I woke up. We had a conversation and he told me that Elias was in the hospital.
Was it all a dream?
“He’s outside, making some calls,” David said softly.
My shoulders slumped as relieve flooded me.
“You didn’t answer my question. How are you feeling?”
I licked my lips as I stepped further into the kitchen. “A little shaky and I have a headache.”
“That’s because you haven’t had a descend meal in a while.” David close his laptop and stood. “I’ll make you some breakfast.”
I hovered close to the table and watched him as he moved around the kitchen. A few minutes later the smell of frying bacon filled the air, making my stomach growl.
“I…uhm…t–thank you for…what you did,” I stuttered.
Colour flooded my cheeks when he turned around to look at me.
“How did you know that…it’s what I needed?” I asked him, eyes darting away.
“I use to be a service alpha,” he answered. “Taking care of omegas was my job.”
“Oh.”
David smiled and then turned back to preparing breakfast.
“Can I help?”
“Just make yourself comfortable,” he muttered.
What I really wanted to do was go search for Alex. But the thought of going outside and drawing attention to myself made me hesitate. Derek had said that there were other people around the woods and the last thing I wanted was to bring trouble to David’s door after he had helped me.
I was still perfuming, although my scent was milder. My body was still creating slick but not so much as before.
And then there was the need for sex.
Taking a seat at the table, I crossed one leg over the other. My eyes darted over to the doorway and stayed there as I waited for Alex to make his appearance.
“Won’t your omega be mad at you for touching another omega?” I asked David, unable to handle the silence.
“I don’t have an omega.”

“Oh.” I glanced at him. “You don’t have a pack?”
“No.”
I hesitated a moment. “Do you want one?”
David didn’t answer immediately.
I jumped when he placed a plate down in front of me.
“Maybe someday I’ll be lucky enough to find a pack,” he said softly as he stared down at me. “But for now, I’m happy here. Eat up, Daisy. There’s something for the headache.”
I stared at the two white tablets on the table next to the glass of ice water.
“Thank you.”
With a nod he moved away.
Picking up a strip of bacon, I started eating as my eyes once again locked on the doorway. It wasn’t long before I heard the sound of Alex approaching on his crutches. My heartbeat increased the closer he got.
And then he was there.
I wanted to jump up and race over to him, but his injuries kept me locked in place.
“Morning, baby girl,” Alex muttered when he finally reached me.
I tilted my head back and wasn’t disappointed when he pressed his lips to mine.
“Eat your food,” he ordered softly.
Pulling out a chair, he moved his crutches to one hand and then sunk down onto it with a loud sigh.
David placed a plate down in front of Alex as well and then took a seat by his laptop again.
“Everything fine?” he asked Alex.
“I wish I could say yes, but I’m afraid not,” Alex muttered.
David stayed silent and waited.
I reached for another strip of bacon. “Can we go home?”
Alex cleared his throat. “Val can’t leave Elias alone just yet. Unfortunately I can’t drive and we both know that you can’t either.”
He pulled a face at me before he picked up a piece of bacon and took a bite.
My mind trailed back to what Alex had told me last night. He hadn’t gone into much detail about his injuries, but it had to be bad if Val can’t leave Elias alone.
“Alex…” I swallowed. “H–how badly was he hurt?”
“He was stabbed in the thigh and he has a few bruises, but he’s fine.” He gripped my hand. “He’ll heal, baby

girl.”
“I can drive you,” David said softly. “It will be a one way drive, no stops and shit.”
“We’ll take the offer,” I said before Alex could utter a word. “Can we leave now?”
David’s eyes narrowed. “Eat Daisy.”
My eyes instantly dropped to the plate. I picked up a slice of toast and made a show of taking a bite. David and Alex shared a look and then started discussing our trip home.
I ate until my plate was empty and then silently listened.
“I’ll go get the car ready,” David said softly as he stood.
Half an hour later, we were on the road. David has a surprisingly large collection of cars suitable for living in the forest. He decided on a big silver SUV because of Alex’s leg injury. The back seat was big enough for him to sit comfortably and for me to sit with him.
David had turned on the radio which made it clear that he wasn’t interested in small talk.
“Did he hurt you?” Alex asked softly.
“Who?”
“Derek.”
I licked my lips, trying to keep my attention focused on the passing scenery. There were trees on either side of the road that went on for miles and miles. It was beautiful, yet scary. We had been staying in the middle of the forest. What if there was an emergency?
“Daisy–girl.”
My eyes snapped over to Alex. “He didn’t. When Derek realized that I was going into heat, he tried to help me.” Colour flooded my cheeks and my eyes lowered to my lap. “He offered to help me but I didn’t want him to.”
“I know he told us.” Alex glanced at David. “It’s why he took you to David. He said the herbal tea wasn’t working anymore.”
“Yeah.”
Alex placed his hand on my thigh and squeezed. “We know that David touched you and we’re okay with that. We’re not mad at you.”
“You’re not?” I breathed.
“No baby girl.”
“You do what you have to in order to survive, even if it means disappointing the person you love or making them hate you,” David growled from the front.
His eyes locked with mine for a few seconds before he focused his attention back on the road. There was a reason for those word, but he didn’t say anymore.

“We’ll talk about everything once we get home,” Alex said softly.
I nodded. Lowering my head to his shoulder, I hooked my arm through his and closed my eyes. Derek had said a lot of things I needed to think carefully about.
With my heat over, I could think about it more clearly.
“I’ll take her.”
My eyes instantly snapped open when a familiar voice filled my ears. I winced when I sat up and felt the pull of muscles from the uncomfortable position I had been in.
I didn’t remember falling asleep, not that it mattered anyway because we were finally home.
Sliding across the seat, I climbed out of the car and blinked at the men standing in a half circle. David was frowning at Alex who was glaring at Val.
“I can take myself,” I muttered.
All eyes snapped to me, but my only focus was on Val. I studied him, searching for any signs of anger but I found only concern. Taking a step towards him was all it took for him to snap into action.
His arms slipped around me in a tight hug that stole my breath. “I was so scared,” he whispered against my ear. “I thought we had lost you before we even got to have you.”
“Do you need any help getting up?” David asked, making Val pul away.
“I’m sure we can manage. Thank you.”
David hesitated a moment and then nodded. With one last glance at me, he climbed into his car and drove off.
“Elias is dying to see you,” Val muttered as he started steering me toward the elevator. “I believe Alex told you about what happened?”
“That he got injured when you went after John,” I told him.
Val frowned but said nothing.
Even the ride up to the penthouse was done in silence. But Val hesitated before he opened the door to the apartment. It looked like he wanted to say something but he changed his mind.
I hurried inside, heading straight for the living room where I figured he would be, but he wasn’t there.
Turning around, I hurried down the hall towards his bedroom instead.
My steps faltered in the doorway. The curtains were closed and the room was surrounded by darkness.
As I stood in the doorway, debating what to do, a lamp flicked on next to the bed, leading the way straight to Elias who was in bed with the covers drawn up to his waist.
I hurried over.

A gasp fell from my lips and my knees weakened when I got my first real look at Elias. I knew it was bad, but I wasn’t prepared for how bad it actually was.
He was covered in bruises. One eyes was swollen shut and the other barely open.
Tears welled up in my eyes as I stared down at him. Swallowing, I gripped the sheets and moved them lower. Elias didn’t stop me. He held perfectly still as I took in the extend of the rest of his injuries. My eyes lingered on the bandage on his thigh.
“Missed you flower,” he muttered softly.
A sob fell from my lips.
Reaching out, he gripped my hip and tugged me closer. Wiping the tears away, I gave him a weak smile.
“I’m sorry,” I whispered. “I just…” I trailed off with a shake of my head.
“How are you feeling?”
“I should be asking you that.” I hesitated a moment and then carefully took a seat on the edge of the bed next to him. “Are you in a lot of pain?”
“They gave me some good painkillers,” he muttered. “How are you?”
I hesitated a moment. “I still have a mild headache but other than that I’m fine.”
Reaching out, I brushed shaky fingers along his jaw.
There was no way that this happened when they went after John. How could they have done so much damage in just a few minutes?
Emotions filled me, making it impossible to keep a clear head. I had so many questions but I knew that even if I asked them, they weren’t going to tell me the truth. Maybe I wasn’t ready to hear it, or maybe I didn’t want to hear it.
Everything could have turned out worse. We were all alive despite what happened.
That was what I needed to be thankful for.
Kicking off my shoes, I climbed onto the bed and carefully laid down on Elias’s other side. Resting my head on his uninjured thigh, I fingered the white bandage covering the wound.
“Daisy?”
I hummed.
“When we got here and found you gone…I was so fucking scared that we had lost you. You…what I feel for you, I’ve never felt for anyone else. You complete me in a way I never thought an omega would.” Elias swallowed loudly. “I know that you think we deserve a better omega, but you couldn’t be more wrong. All of us are broken in ways that are probably beyond compare. We have issues that we can’t fix and that’s what makes us the perfect family. We understand each other. I love you, flower and I honestly don’t see a future with any omega but you.”
I squeezed my eyes closed as the tears escaped and rolled onto his warm skin.

Elias’s hand slipped into my hair, shaky fingers massaging my scalp.
“I just wanted you to know that in case you decide to use what happened as another excuse as to why you don’t fit with us.”
