“Why are you in such a good mood?”
It was extremely rare for Valiant to be bright–eyed and happy at eight o’clock on a Monday morning. Grumpy was one word I constantly used to describe him when he was working on a case.
“Can’t I just be happy?” he questioned, raising an eyebrow.
I walked past him to pour myself a cup of coffee. “You’re usually not this happy when you’re in the middle of a case.”
“If you want to know so badly…” He rolled his eyes. “Daisy agreed to organize my closet. Once I have my lucky tie, this case will be solved in no time.”
I had a feeling that it was about more than his lucky tie. Knowing Valiant, I wasn’t going to get any answers out of him unless he volunteered to tell me himself.
After downing half my cup of coffee, I set it aside and started pulling things out to make breakfast. Alex already left for work so it was just Daisy, Valiant, and me.
“Are you staying for breakfast?” I asked him.
“Depends. What are you making?”
I smiled. “Pancakes.”
Valiant choked on his coffee.
“Daisy is a sweet tooth,” I added.
I took joy in the low curses that fell from his lips.
Valiant was a health freak and we allowed him to feed us healthy shit, but things were about to change because there were now three sweet tooth’s instead of two. He was outnumbered.
“I have a few new recipes I want to try.”
“You’re playing dirty,” he growled.
“I thought you liked it when I play dirty.”
I smelt her before I saw her. 1
Daisy stood there, watching us with wide eyes and pink cheeks. It was clear that she had caught the end of our conversation, but she wasn’t sure what to make of it. Her eyes darted between us and then lowered to the floor as she hurried past me to the fridge.
“Good morning, flower,” I greeted. “Sleep well?”
She nodded.
Pursing my lips, I focused on mixing the ingredients for our pancakes.

Daisy was obviously still upset about what happened at the cafe. We hadn’t talked about it again, and that was fine, but she hadn’t spoken a word to me since.
I hated that she was doing that because she was treating me exactly like all the other women were treating me for having a hideous scar. My hand unconsciously lifted to touch the scar on my cheek.
“Elias said that you’re a sweet tooth.”
My hand dropped to my side.
“Are you the health freak?” Daisy questioned.
Valiant let out a dramatic sigh. “Yes.”
“That’s why you’re so fit,” she muttered.
“I eat healthy and I go to the gym regularly.”
“That’s when he doesn’t lock himself in the office to work on a new case,” I told her.
“Do you do that often?”
“Nope.”
“Liar,” I called.
A grunt fell from my lips when a fist slammed into my shoulder. I turned to glare at Valiant as he passed me but all I received was a cheeky smile.
“I need to go,” he said. “Elias will be around if you need anything, petal. See you tonight.”
I dodged his second punch but knocked over the bowl of pancake mix. Valiant dodged the mess and hurried to the door with a laugh.
“My closet is all yours petal. Ask Elias if you need help or anything!” he called a second before the door slammed
shut.
Bending, I picked up the bowl and placed it back on the counter. I walked to the small cleaning closet to pull out some cleaning supplies, but I froze when I turned back around and found Daisy on her knees cleaning the floor with a dishtowel.
“You don’t have to do that.”
Daisy ignored me.
Hooking my hands under her arms, I pulled her to her feet and moved her aside.
“Do you like cleaning?” I asked her.
She bit her lip and then shook her head.
“So let me do the cleaning okay?” I turned away from her. “Coffee is freshly brewed. Take a seat while I clean this and think of something else to make for breakfast.”

“I can make us something,” she offered softly.
“Can you cook?”
She was silent for a few seconds before she answered softly. “No.”
A smile slipped onto my face. I like that she was an omega who hated cleaning and knew next to nothing about cooking.
“I can teach you.” I glanced up at her. “I’m a great cook.”
“Do you like cooking?” she asked softly.
I put the cleaning supplies away before I looked at her. “I love it.”
Her brows dipped into a frown but she said nothing else. Realizing that our conversation was over, I started searching through the fridge for something else I could use to make breakfast.
“Do you like french toast?” I glanced over my shoulder to find her eyes glued to my ass.
Deciding not to call her out on checking me out, I grabbed the eggs and milk from the fridge. When I turned around, she had her back to me.
“It can be your first lesson because it’s easy to make.”
Daisy moved to my side, paying close attention as I mixed everything together. Having her so close was making it a little hard to concentrate on the task at hand. I sucked in a deep breath and slowly blew it out.
I’d give her permission to rub her scent all over my room just so I could drown in her scent while I sleep.
Five minutes later we were seated across from each other at the table with a plate of french toast between us.
I watched in amusement as she poured some syrup on and then took a bite.
“It’s good,” she said after swallowing the bite.
There was no attempt to make any conversation after that. It made the tension between us rise again.
Placing my knife and fork down, I leaned back in the chair and looked at her.
“Why are you doing this?” I asked her. “You won’t look me in the eyes, and it’s clear that you don’t want to be in the same room with me for longer than is necessary.”
“I-”
“Let me finish, Daisy,” I interrupted her. “I told you that what happened wasn’t your fault. There’s no reason
for
r you to continue blaming yourself for something that was out of both of our control.”
“Elias-”
“I called a friend, someone who still works at the department.” Her eyes snapped up to mine. “I asked him to pull the files for me.”
“Why?” she breathed.

“So I can prove to you that you had nothing to do with that bomb going off and because I want you to look at me like you had the night you saw me for the first time,”
She blinked at me. “H–How did I look at you?”
“I’ll leave you to figure that out yourself.”
Standing, I gathered our dished and placed it in the sink.
“I’m going to uhm…go start organizing Valiant’s closet,”
“Okay,”
I loaded the dishes into the dishwasher and wiped the table down before I moved on to clean the living room. When I was done with that, I headed towards Alex’s office,
There were tons of emails waiting for me when I locked into my account. I scrolled through them until I found the one I was looking for. Printing it, I picked up the papers and started reading through the incident reports about the kidnapping. There was a full report about everything that had happened that day.
I started sweating as I read through it. The memories played clearly in my mind as if I was back there again. By the time I was done, I had to set it aside and take a few deep breaths to calm my racing heart.
Before I could even manage to get a shard of control back, a scream echoed around the penthouse,
I was on my feet and storming out of the room in seconds,
The scene that greeted me made me blink and then frown.
“Jesus Daisy,” I cursed, “I thought something bad happened,”
“Something bad did happen!” she yelled, pointing to the floor, “I touched his dirty toy,”
My eyes dropped to the floor, I couldn’t help it, I slumped against the wall and burst out laughing
“It’s not funny,” Daisy cried, “It’s loaded with all kinds of germs.”
“Flower…” My laughter slowly died down when I took in the look on her face, “Shit, please don’t tell me that you’re one of those germ freaks?”
She threw a glare at me, “I’m not,”
“Good,” Rubbing, a hand down my face I straightened and took in the mess. “He has a lot of clothes,”
“Most of it still has price tags on,”
I walked over to the offensive object and picked it up. When I straightened, I caught Daisy staring at me, or rather staring at the toy,
“W–what is it?” she questioned hesitantly,
“A butt plug,”
She frowned, “Butt…so it goes…”

“Up your ass, yes.” I tilted my head to the side. “I’m just going to ask so I don’t jump to conclusions. Are you a virgin Daisy?”
Colour flooded her cheeks. “I’m not a prude.”
“I’ll take that as a yes then.”
I walked over to Valiant’s bedside table and pulled open the top drawer to throw the toy inside. It was obviously a mistake. I smirked when another gasp fell from Daisy’s lips.
“There’s so many,” she whispered.
“I’m sure you’ll be finding a lot more.”
Her eyes widened in horror. She took one look at the closet and then shook her head. “I changed my mind.”
“I’ll help,” I offered. “You find a toy, let me know and I’ll take care of it.”
Her eyes darted from me to the closet and then to the drawer. “Okay.”
