Claiming their Omega (Suzi de Beer) novel Chapter 8

  1. DAISY

A knock on the bedroom door startled me.

Frowning, I glanced between the door and the clothes folded neatly across the bed. I had been so caught up in the task that I had completely forgotten where I was.

Daisy?

Yes?I called, continuing my task of folding the shirt.

The door opened a second later.

Damn, you’re really good at that.

I looked up at Valiant. He was staring at the neatly folded clothes on my bed.

Are you making fun of me?I asked him.

His eyes snapped to mine. No. Why would you think that?

I shrugged, leaning over to place the folded shirt on top of the shirt pile. When I sat back and looked up at him, he was still staring at the clothes. I followed his gaze, searching for the item that was holding his attention. Colour flooded my cheeks when I realized what he was staring at.

At the very edge of the bed was my plain cotton underwear.

You act like you’ve never seen a woman’s panties before,I muttered, even though I was burning with

embarrassment inside.

I’ve seen plenty, just not any that are so mismatched andold.

I avoided eye contact by picking up a pair of pants. Can I help you with something?

Dinner will be ready in ten,he informed me.

Okay.

How much will you charge me to clean my closet and get my clothes to look as neat as yours?

I frowned at him. You want me to fold your clothes for you?

I want you to organize it.He straightened and slowly entered my room. I’m not gonna lie, I’m a bit of a slop. It’s easier to just throw everything inside the closet because I’m usually in a hurry. But then I had to search for hours when I’m looking for a specific shirt or something.

I’m not-

I’ll buy you ice cream,he interrupted.

I don’t like ice cream.

I almost smiled when I caught the look on his face.

When he stayed silent for a few seconds, I raised my head to look at him. He was staring at something to my

right. I followed his gaze to the book on the bedside table.

I’ll take you to any bookstore you want to go to,he said.

With no time limit?I asked. I get to stay in the store however long I want to.

Valiant tilted his head to the side and narrowed his eyes. Half an hour.

An hour.

What can you possibly do in a bookstore for an hour?he growled.

I smiled. “Why do you need me to organize your closet?

A loud sigh fell from his lips. “Because I can’t find my lucky tie and I need it because I have an important case coming up. I don’t have time to do it myself.

Then when will you have time to take me to the bookstore?

Petal, you ask too many questions. He turned. Dinner’s ready.

I sighed but stood and followed him out of the room. My steps faltered when we reached the kitchen. I was not expecting the small dining table to be set or Alexander to be seated there along with Elias.

Take a seat.Valiant indicated to the chair he was holding out for me.

I swallowed and hurried forward so I didn’t keep them waiting any longer.

Once everyone was seated, Elias picked up a bowl and held it out toward me.

Ladies first,he muttered.

I smiled and reached out to take a piece of grilled chicken. He took a piece for himself and then passed the bowl on. It went on like that until my plate was filled with vegetables, some rice, and baked potatoes.

My eyes darted around, waiting for the order to eat but nobody said anything. I realized that once everybody’s plate was filled, you could start eating.

Daisy has amazing clothesorganizing skills,Valiant said, breaking the tense silence.

Colour flooded my cheeks. It’s something everyone learns from a young age,I muttered.

Elías snorted. Not Valiant. He was outside being naughty when we were taught about keeping the house tidy.

That caught my attention. Valiant already said that they were a pack and Elias mentioned it earlier too. But packs were usually created by mutual agreements and even then, there was never more than one alpha. 1

You grew up together?I questioned.

It’s none of your business,Alexander growled.

My eyes snapped over to him but I instantly looked away when I caught him glaring at me.

You are not a guest here,he hissed. You don’t need to know anything about us.

The food that looked appetizing a moment ago suddenly made my stomach roll with nausea.

Then I suppose I have no right sitting at this table,I said softly as I pushed my chair back and stood.Prisoners eat in their cells, don’t they?

Sit down,Alexander snapped.

My legs trembled, the urge to follow his order too strong to resist.

Did you just use your alpha bark on me?I hissed. You have no fucking right to act like an asshole and then order me around using your designation! I did not ask to be here Alexander Wyatt! I’m here because of you so the least you can do is show me some fucking respect and be a little more considerate of my feelings.

Breathing heavily, I tried my best to glare at him, but tears filled my eyes. Swallowing, I stood once again, and this time he allowed me to walk away.

I closed the bedroom door softly behind me and instantly made my way into the nest. Pulling the bookshelf back in place, I climbed into bed. With the blankets pulled over my head, I gave in to the tears.

Mother made sure that she taught me everything there was to be an omega. But what she taught me was not who I was. I wasn’t like her. I wasn’t that type of omega. Which was why I hated that he made me cry.

I couldn’t be the vulnerable omega, but there was no pretending when it came to Alexander. He made me feel small and vulnerable and not myself.

I hated it.

I hated him.

“Can I take a seat, Daisy?

I shrugged, clutching the blanket tighter. Prisoners have no say in anything.

Now you’re just being childish,Alexander growled.

The mattress dipped at my back when he took a seat. For a moment he did nothing, but then he sighed and shifted slightly on the bed.

I’m sorry,he said softly. You’re right. You didn’t ask to be here and I have no right treating you the way I have been treating you.

You were nice to me at the dinner party,I whispered. Was it all an act?

Yes.

I didn’t expect him to admit it.

I wanted to use you to get information about John,he said softly. Elias told me that you have no clue what your stepfather does or how he makes his money.

The staff around the house talked behind his back a lot, but nobody had ever mentioned what he actually does for a living. I gave up trying to figure it out a long time ago.

I don’t trust easily,Alexander said softly. Every time I allowed myself to do that I ended up getting hurt.

Being an asshole is how I protect myself. It’s how I manage to keep everyone from getting close.

Making excuses isn’t how you apologize, Alex.

The bed dipped at my front and a second later the blankets were lowered, surprising me. I blinked at the face hovering inches away from mine.

Fuck. You made her cry.

I reached for the blankets but it was ripped from my fingers. Another face appeared, forest green eyes locking with mine.

You didn’t make me cry. I miss my family,I lied.

Alexander’s eyes narrowed. I would have believed you if you hadn’t told me that your stepfather is an asshole and Elias hadn’t told me that your mother forced you to come here.

He was close. Closer than he had ever been which made it impossible for me to ignore his scent filling my nostrils. He smelled like freshly brewed coffee.

I’ll try to be a little more considerate of your feelings,he said softly. And not to be an asshole.

I tensed when he reached up and swiped a finger over my cheekbone.

Just don’t take over the penthouse by decorating it with girly shit. His lips twitched. Val’s cousins always do that. I hate it.

I had to swallow a few times before I could find my voice. I’ll keep the changes strictly to my room.

Good. His hand moved away. Now please come and eat your dinner.

It tastes better than it looks,Valiant muttered, reminding me that he was also in the room with us. Elias is a great cook. He learned that while we were out being naughty.

I would have cracked a smile if it wasn’t for the fact that I realized how close both of them were. I sucked in a breath and nearly moaned. Their combined scent was something.

Careful, omega,Alexander growled. I said I’d be nicer to you, not that I’ll fall into your bed.
