Chapter 117 Midnight Bar
It was well past midnight. Quinn had no idea who Lucy had stepped out to call.
Before leaving the room, Lucy threw Julian a quick, meaningful glance.

The door closed behind her, and suddenly the room felt much quieter with only Quinn and Julian left inside.
For a moment, the air seemed thinner than before.
Quinn realized she had tightened her grip around her fork without noticing.
Julian ladled some soup into a bowl and placed it beside her plate. “Have some more.”
“Thank you,” Quinn said quickly.
She lowered her eyes right after speaking, carefully avoiding his gaze.
Sitting across from Julian made her oddly tense. She felt stiff, self–conscious, like she didn’t quite know where to put her hands or even how to breathe normally.
Julian looked at her. “What are your plans after this?”
Quinn answered honestly. “I’ve been preparing for a design competition. After the divorce is finalized, I’m planning to go back to school.”
“That’s a good direction,” Julian said. “No matter what stage of life you’re in, learning new things and sharpening your skills always pays off.”
“I know,” Quinn said. “Thank you, Mr. Sterling.”
Julian let out a soft chuckle. “You’re thanking me again?”
The sound of his laughter made Quinn glance up before she could stop herself.
Julian had always been good–looking, but most of the time his expression stayed serious and controlled. He carried the quiet authority of someone used to making decisions that moved entire companies.
That kind of presence could make people nervous without him saying a word.
But right now he was smiling.

The corner of his mouth lifted, softening the hard lines of his face. The usual intensity in his eyes eased, replaced with a warmth she rarely saw.
It wasn’t a big change, but somehow it changed everything about the way he looked.
For a moment, Quinn felt oddly caught off guard.
She couldn’t remember ever seeing Julian look this relaxed before.
Julian noticed she was staring at him.
Her expression was slightly blank, her big eyes filled with confusion and a kind of unguarded innocence.
The kind of sight that easily stirred someone’s protective instincts.
Julian was the first to look away.
He hadn’t ordered any alcohol tonight. Instead he reached for the glass of iced water beside him and took a slow sip.
Ever since the night on the yacht, something had changed.
He had realized he shouldn’t be alone with Quinn for too long. Because whenever they were, his mind started drifting toward thoughts that shouldn’t be there.
To him, those thoughts didn’t feel wrong. They felt natural, even beautiful.
But considering the situation between them, he shouldn’t allow himself to think that way.
Even imagining it felt like crossing a line with Quinn.
The problem was that sometimes he simply couldn’t stop those thoughts from appearing.
Self–control had always been one of his greatest strengths.
Except when it came to Quinn.
Lucy had purposely stepped out to give them a little privacy, but she worried Quinn might feel awkward. After only a short trip to the restroom, she returned.
She pushed the door open with a grin. “What did I miss? What are you two talking about?”
With Lucy back, the atmosphere instantly became livelier. Quinn visibly relaxed.

By the time they finished dinner, it was already close to one in the morning. Julian drove them home.
Lucy jumped out of the car first and waved through the open window. “Night, Julian!”

They had arrived late.
Every booth was taken, and even the narrow standing areas near the walls were packed with people.
Before Quinn could process what was happening, Lucy had already grabbed her hand and started pushing through the crowd.
When they finally reached a more open space near the front, the stage came into view.
Lucy’s eyes lit up. “Perfect timing!”
A performer had just stepped onto the stage.
He wore fitted black pants that sat low on his hips, emphasizing his narrow waist. Above the waist, there was nothing.
Instead of a shirt, black leather straps crossed over his chest, creating a dramatic visual effect under the stage lights.
His abs were sharply defined. A strip of white lace fabric covered his eyes like a blindfold.
As the music surged, he moved across the stage with slow, controlled motions that sent the crowd into a frenzy of cheers.
Lucy leaned close to Quinn’s ear so she could be heard over the music.
“See? That body is insane!”
Quinn felt heat rush to her face. The way she had grown up made scenes like this feel a little overwhelming.
Watching a man perform deliberately seductive moves in front of hundreds of people still felt strange to her.
And if she was being honest…
That physique wasn’t even close to Julian’s. The thought popped into her mind before she could stop it.

Why am I thinking about Julian again?
Startled by her own thoughts, Quinn quickly forced herself to focus back on the stage.
