Lucy genuinely feared Julian.

It was not just fear. It was a deep sense of respect and admiration.

When Julian said something, it carried more weight for her than anything her parents might say.

Quinn spoke up quietly, “Lucy, maybe you should stop drinking.”

Then she looked at Jess. “You and I can keep going.”

Julian had never intended to stop Lucy from drinking. What he actually wanted was for Quinn to slow down.

Lucy was family, of course he would look out for her.

One of them was Clara.

“Clara, now that you’re back in the States, your family is probably setting up your engagement soon, right?”

Clara shook her head modestly. “She just asked me to go shopping. Don’t read too much into it.”

“Then why didn’t she invite anyone else? There are plenty of socialites in Lakeshore City, but she picked you”

“Exactly. Sounds like the Sterling family already approves of their future daughter-in-law.”

Their voices faded as they walked out.

Quinn pulled a paper towel from the dispenser and slowly dried the water from her hands.

So that’s how things are.

When she returned to the lounge, Julian was no longer sitting near Lucy. He had moved to the couch area.

Clara sat beside him, talking with him. Quinn could not hear what Julian said, but Clara’s lips curved into a bright smile.

She looked genuinely happy.

Quinn returned to her seat, picked up her glass, and finished it in one long drink. Lucy tried to stop her but was too late.

“Quinn, why are you drinking so fast?”

Quinn smiled. “Didn’t I say we’re not stopping until we’re drunk?”

“You can still pace yourself,” Lucy said. “That stuff creeps up on you later.”

“I’ll be fine.”

My heart already feels terrible. A little physical discomfort doesn’t matter.

The three of them kept talking and drinking. Before they realized it, they had already finished a second bottle.

Lucy was clearly tipsy now. She leaned on the table and looked at Jess. “So if you dress like this… does that mean you like men?”

Quinn sat beside them without speaking. Her eyes were already unfocused.

When she saw them laughing, she laughed too. It was obvious she had the lowest tolerance of the three. A soft pink blush spread across her pale cheeks.

Jess rested his chin on his hand and looked at her.

“If I were a straight guy, Quinn would absolutely ruin me. Quinn, how are you this pretty?”

Lucy looked proud. “Of course she is. Quinn’s the prettiest girl ever. If I were a guy, I’d marry her immediately. I’d hold her all day, kiss her all day. You have no idea how soft she is when you hug her. And her chest is so…”
