Chapter 183 Don’t Push Her

Finished

Lucy had grown up around wealth, the kind where everything looked polished on the surface but rarely held together the way people imagined. She did not spend much time around the older generation, but she had seen enough to understand how things really worked.

From the outside, those marriages looked perfect.

Behind closed doors, a lot of them were anything but.

Even if Julian and Clara got engaged, even if they eventually got married, there was a real possibility they would each live their own separate lives without anyone asking questions.

Lucy could not quite picture Julian doing that. He had always seemed distant and controlled, almost rigid when it came to women.

Still, she had seen too much to believe anyone was completely different.

In their world, arrangements like that were not unusual.

So if Julian ever wanted someone on the side, people would not be shocked.

But if the person he wanted was Quinn, and Quinn clearly did not want him, then Lucy would step in.

No hesitation.

She would protect her friend.

There were plenty of women out there. Julian did not need to fixate on Quinn.

Julian’s expression turned colder. She told you she doesn’t like me?

Lucy hesitated, then said quietly, She doesn’t even want to see you.

She looked at him, trying to hold her ground. Just don’t push her, okay? Please, for me. Just leave Quinn

alone.

Julian did not respond, only looked at her.

That alone made Lucy uneasy.

She almost reached for his sleeve out of habit, like she used to, but stopped herself halfway.

Then she tried again, her voice softer this time. You’ve got plenty of people who like you. Why make things harder for her? She’s already been through enough. Just let it go, okay?

Julian answered without hesitation. No.

Lucy’s frustration flared. Julian, seriously? You’re really going to force this? That’s not okay.

Julian did not argue. His attention had already shifted past her.

Quinn moved slightly, her brows tightening as if she was uncomfortable.

Julian reacted instantly, stepping toward her.

Lucy froze for a second, then hurried after him, this time not daring to argue anymore.

When she saw him helping Quinn up, she rushed closer. Julian!

I’ll take you both home.”

Lucy still felt uneasy. You don’t have to, I can take Quinn-

She stopped midsentence.

Julian looked at her.

That was enough. The rest of her words disappeared.

Julian tried to guide Quinn forward, but her body had gone completely slack, her weight sinking with no

support.

Lucy moved in to help, but before she could reach her, Julian bent down and lifted Quinn into his arms in one smooth motion.

Lucy stared, stunned.

Since when does he do that for anyone?

There was something unexpectedly intense about the way he held her.

Then reality hit.

Quinn is going to lose it when she wakes up.

Lucy snapped out of it and hurried after them. Julian moved quickly, and by the time she got outside, Quinn was already in the car.

Lucy reached for the door, but Julian stopped her.

Take the car behind us.

Julian!

She immediately protested. I just said-

I need to talk to her,he said, cutting her off. Take the other car.

She’s completely drunk,Lucy said, frowning. What are you even going to say? You’re not planning to take advantage of-

She did not finish. She did not need to.

Julian looked at her. Lucy instantly backed down.

Julian said, You don’t trust me?

Lucy hesitated. It’s not that, I justI just think

She trailed off. Julian gave a subtle signal.

A bodyguard stepped forward and guided Lucy away before she could argue again.

Hey, I can walk-

It made no difference. She was already being taken to the other car.

Julian got in.

Quinn was slumped against the door, her whole body limp, her breathing uneven, clearly uncomfortable but too out of it to adjust.

Julian reached over and pulled her closer, letting her rest against his shoulder.

She was already asleep.

Even so, she shifted slightly, her expression tightening. Still uncomfortable.

She moved again, slowly sliding downward, searching for a better position. Julian went still.

She had settled across his lap. The divider was already up, sealing off the back seat into a private space.

No one could see inside.

Julian let out a quiet breath. You had a lot to say earlier. Now you’re this comfortable?

He sounded annoyed, but there was no real force behind it. There was no way he was pushing her away.

If anything, this kind of unconscious closeness pulled at something in him.

If only she would come this close when she’s awake.

Through the thin fabric, he could feel the warmth of her face.

Her cheek rested against his thigh, far too intimate.

Then her hand lifted slightly, brushing her own face before dropping down and resting on his leg.

Julian closed his eyes briefly.

My selfcontrol really doesn’t stand a chance around her.
