Julian felt something in his chest tighten the second Quinn looked at him like that.
He couldn’t handle that gaze.
And yet, he couldn’t look away either.
All he could do was silently hope she wouldn’t move, that she would just stay there, quiet, close, not making things worse for him.
He hadn’t even finished that thought before Quinn suddenly moved.
She stared at him with those wide, unfocused eyes, then reached out and grabbed his throat.
Julian instinctively leaned back.
That was all it took to set her off.
ushed
She couldn’t quite reach him, so without thinking, she swung one leg over and climbed right into his lap, trying again to grab his neck.
This time, Julian didn’t move.
The moment she sat on him, his mind went completely blank.
He had always been controlled, disciplined, never letting himself cross a line with any woman.
Every single moment where he lost that control had been because of Quinn.
On the yacht. That night when he was drunk.
And now. Always her.
Does she even realize what she’s doing?
Does she have any idea what happens when you sit like this on a man’s lap?
Does she know what she’s pressing against right now?
It took less than a second for his entire body to go rigid. Her hands were still at his throat, but he barely registered it.
If she wanted to choke him, fine. Because what else was he supposed to do with her like this?
He had no defense against her. Julian lifted his hands and placed them on her waist.
It was so slim it almost didn’t feel real, delicate, fragile, like it fit perfectly under his palms without any
effort.
And still, Quinn had her hands around his neck.

Chapter 185 Way Too Close
A second ago she looked pitiful. Now she looked fierce.
“You jerk!
“You’re the worst!
“Such a jerk!”
Finished
That was all she knew how to say, repeating it over and over like she couldn’t find any stronger words.
Julian felt completely wrecked by her without her even trying. And hearing her clumsy insults, he almost laughed.
How could someone be this adorable and this bad at being mad at the same time?
But then it hit him.
Why was she even mad at him? What had he done?
She was the one who said he just wanted to mess around, that all he cared about was her body.
He hadn’t even gotten upset with her over that yet.
And now she was the one calling him names.
Julian felt both annoyed and helpless.
“Why are you calling me that,” he asked, one hand steady on her waist, the other sliding up to her back, making sure she wouldn’t lose balance and fall.
“Jerk…” she mumbled again, completely out of it but stubborn.
Julian couldn’t even get mad anymore. All that was left in his eyes was softness.
He really had no way of dealing with her.
“I think you’re the little troublemaker here,” he said, reaching up to pinch her cheek lightly.
Her reaction was immediate.
She smacked his hand away. “Don’t touch me!”
The sound was sharp in the quiet space. Julian didn’t react.
If she wanted to hit him, she could go ahead. It didn’t hurt.
But Quinn froze when she heard the sound.
She stopped what she was doing, grabbed his hand with both of hers, and blinked at it like she had just realized something.
Then she leaned down and gently blew on the spot she hit.

“Does it hurt?” she asked, her voice suddenly soft, almost careful.
Of course it didn’t hurt.
If anything, the way she was blowing on it made it tickle.
But for some reason, Julian said, “Yeah.”
“Okay, okay…” she said, blowing on it again, a little more earnestly this time.
Finished
She pouted slightly, tilting her head like she was thinking. Then she leaned down and pressed a quick kiss to the back of his hand.
“There. A kiss makes it better.”
Julian’s breathing went uneven instantly.
This woman really is going to be the end of me.
He grabbed her wrist, careful without even realizing it, like he was afraid using any strength might hurt
her.
She was too thin.
Way too thin.
I need to take better care of her. She needs to gain some weight.
The moment he held her wrist, though, she didn’t like it. She started struggling, her whole body twisting as she tried to pull away.
That movement made Julian’s expression darken immediately. She shifted, clearly uncomfortable, trying to adjust how she was sitting.
But Julian tightened his hold on her waist, not letting her move.
She climbed onto him on her own. There was no way he was letting her just leave like nothing happened. What did she think this was, somewhere she could come and go whenever she felt like it?
When she realized she couldn’t move, Quinn started whining softly, leaning into him like she was acting spoiled.
She had never been the type to act like that growing up.
No one had ever given her the space to.
But after spending time with Lucy, who could charm her way out of anything, Quinn had picked up bits of it without realizing.
And now, drunk, all those little habits came out stronger.
“Lucy…” she murmured.

She was calling the wrong name.
“This seat is so uncomfortable…
“It’s hard…
“Why are you ignoring me?”
She huffed softly, then leaned forward, resting her head against his neck.
