Chapter 199 Pushed Too Far

“No.” Quinn said right away, shaking her head. “If he sees us, he’s going to start getting the wrong idea about us.”
Julian looked at her like that wasn’t even a problem. “And you care about that? We’re not exactly strangers, Quinn.”
“We’re not… like that,” she said, her confidence slipping a little. “At most, we’re just… normal.”
Julian’s gaze lingered on her. “Normal? You usually get that close with people you call normal? Hugging, touching, kissing?”
“Can you not,” Quinn cut him off, her face heating up. “How long are you planning to hold that over me?”
Julian didn’t hesitate. “As long as I’m alive.”
Quinn stared at him.
He went on, completely unbothered. “You did it, and now I’m not allowed to mention it? You kiss me when you feel like it, touch me when you feel like it, but I don’t even get to talk about it?”
Quinn snapped back, “And you don’t? Then what exactly are you doing right now?”
His hand was still resting around her ankle, his thumb moving slowly against her skin.
Julian let out a quiet laugh. “That’s different. I’m keeping you warm. I’m not getting anything out of it. You, on the other hand, had your hands on my abs, and where you kissed was…”
“Stop,” Quinn said quickly, mortified. “Seriously, stop. I get it, okay? I was wrong.”
“You weren’t wrong,” Julian said, his tone calm, almost amused. “You just went with the moment. Saw me and couldn’t help yourself. Happens.”
“That’s not what happened,” Quinn said, wishing she could disappear. “Don’t make it sound like that.”
Why does he keep twisting it like that?
She felt like she was being painted into some shameless version of herself.
“Alright,” Julian said easily. “We’ll drop it.”
Quinn finally relaxed a little.
As long as he stopped bringing that up, she could handle anything else.
“Then let’s talk about your divorce,” Julian continued. “I want to ask you a few things.”
“Go ahead.”
“You’re sure about it?”

“I am.
“There’s nothing left between you and him?”
“Nothing.”
“You won’t regret it later?”
“No.”
“Even if it gets messy, you’re not changing your mind?”
“I won’t.”
Her answers came fast, steady, without hesitation.
Julian watched her for a second, then asked casually, “The guy you like, he’s overseas, right?”
“No.”
The answer came out instantly. Quinn froze the second it left her mouth.
Wait… what did he just ask me?
She looked up.
Julian was already watching her, that faint, knowing look in his eyes.
She had been the one who said before that the man she liked was married and living abroad.
Now she had just contradicted herself without even thinking.
He hadn’t argued, hadn’t pushed, just let her walk right into it.
And she did.
Her face flushed as embarrassment hit all at once. She lifted her foot and gave him a small kick.
It wasn’t hard, barely more than a push, but there was a clear edge of frustration in it, mixed with something softer she didn’t want to admit.
Julian didn’t move. If anything, he seemed to enjoy it.
Feeling the light press against his stomach, he said, “That got to you? You’re not going to explain? One second he’s out of the country, next second he’s not. What, you’ve got options now?”
“That’s none of your business,” Quinn shot back.
Julian smiled instead of getting annoyed.
If anything, he liked seeing her like this. No distance, no careful politeness.
She pushed back, got irritated, reacted. That meant she was letting him in.

“Alright,” he said, easygoing. “Tll drop it. You’re already this worked up, and now you’re kicking me too.”
Quinn shut her eyes, refusing to engage anymore.
How did I end up here?
Everything she tried to keep controlled before now felt pointless. She was arguing with him, losing her temper, and her foot was still in his hands.
What kind of situation was this?
She gave up, closed her eyes, and stayed quiet.
Julian’s voice softened just a little. “When you’re with me, you don’t have to filter yourself. Say what you want Do what you want. Just don’t lie to me, okay?”
Quinn opened her eyes and looked at him. “I get that much freedom? Then if I say I want you to leave, will you?”
Julian didn’t even shift. “You can say it. Doesn’t mean I’ll do it. I only listen to my girlfriend.”
Quinn immediately looked away and shut her eyes again.
This is ridiculous.
He didn’t even have to try. Just sitting there, saying things like that, was enough to throw her off completely.
How is anyone supposed to handle someone like him?
It felt impossible.
Like being handed something way beyond her ability and expected to figure it out.
There was no way she could win this.
If she didn’t look at him, didn’t respond, didn’t engage, maybe she could at least survive it.
Julian didn’t push further. He just stayed there, keeping her company.
The doctor had warned that once the anesthesia wore off, the pain might hit.
For now, she seemed okay.
Her phone buzzed. Julian picked it up and handed it to her.
Quinn kept her eyes down, took it, and said quietly, “Thanks.”
