Chapter 233 He Never Lets Go
“It’s nothing.” Lucy said, casually slipping her phone under the pillow like she didn’t want Quinn to overthink it.

Julian had made it very clear earlier that she was supposed to sleep on the couch and not share the bed with Quinn, but Lucy had already decided she wasn’t going to listen, because in her mind there was no way he would ever find out, and more importantly, it had been way too long since she last got to sleep next to Quinn, which honestly mattered more to her than anything Julian said.
She couldn’t understand why he was being so strict about it anyway, since it wasn’t like she was going to do anything inappropriate, so banning them from sharing a bed just felt unnecessarily controlling.
Later that evening, just as expected, dinner was delivered right on time, and the moment the food was set out, it was obvious that whoever arranged it had put real thought into it, because not only did everything look restaurant–level polished, it also tasted great and was clearly designed with Quinn’s recovery in mind, which made both of them end up eating more than they originally planned.
Over the next two days, Quinn made a quick visit to Adele, keeping things light and not staying too long, while Elaine called her multiple times, and during one of those conversations, Quinn finally told her about the divorce, which surprisingly didn’t upset Elaine at all, but instead seemed to put her in a noticeably better mood, as she kept urging Quinn to come home, though Quinn still chose not to go back.
Meals continued to arrive three times a day without fail, always on time, and every night Lucy would jokingly insist on splitting the cost with Quinn, even though they both knew it wasn’t really necessary, but she stuck to it anyway, treating it like a rule between them.
By the time the charity gala came around, Lucy hadn’t taken Quinn shopping, but she showed up with a dress instead, holding it up with a proud smile as she said, “I swear I’ve never worn this, I just bought it because I liked it at the time, but it never really suited me, and since we’re about the same size, I figured it would look way better on you.”
The dress was a deep green evening gown with an off–the–shoulder neckline, a fitted waist, and a softly flared skirt, and while that shade of green could easily overwhelm most people, on Quinn it did the exact opposite, making her already clear complexion look even brighter and more luminous.
The moment she changed into it, the difference was undeniable.\
Lucy stared at her for a second, then walked over and gave her a quick hug, clearly impressed. “Okay, this is actually insane, you look like you walked out of some high–end campaign shoot.”
She stepped back, still looking her over. “This color was made for you.”
There’s no way this isn’t Julian’s pick.
Without saying anything, she quietly took a photo and sent it to Julian.
Lucy sent a message, “Look at her, this dress is unreal on Quinn.”
A moment later, a transfer notification popped up.
Julian didn’t reply with words.

He just sent money. Then saved the photo.
And set it as his lock screen. Even so, he was still irritated.

He had to admit that part of what Quinn said before was true, because he had grown up in an environment where things naturally went his way, where people rarely pushed back, and where money and influence often made obstacles disappear, but even knowing that, he still couldn’t accept her conclusion.
She said she wanted respect.
Hadn’t he already been giving her that?
Time and time again, she pushed him right to the edge of his. restraint, and every single time, he was the one who backed off first, holding himself in check just so he wouldn’t cross a line that might hurt her.
And yet, in her eyes, it still wasn’t enough.
If anything, she’s the one who crossed the line.
He couldn’t help thinking about what happened in the car, about the way she held onto him, kissed him without hesitation, completely ignoring any sense of boundaries.
Was that respect?
Sober, she kept her distance, polite and distant, acting like they barely knew each other.
Drunk, she treated him like he existed entirely for her to do whatever she wanted.
The contrast made no sense.
He let out a slow breath.
Maybe I really do owe her something from another life.
Even while he was still annoyed, the thought of her going back and sharing a bed with Lucy bothered him more than it should have, which was exactly why he sent that message earlier, and despite everything, he still couldn’t stop himself from worrying about her condition, which was why he arranged for meals to be delivered in the first place, even going as far as making sure Lucy split the cost so Quinn wouldn’t question
The dress she was wearing tonight was also something he prepared ahead of time.
He had thought through everything.
And still, she didn’t see it that way.
After the frustration settled, what followed was something he wasn’t used to doing, which was reflecting on
himself.
He had never liked anyone before, never been in a relationship, and had no real understanding of how to approach someone he cared about, so looking back, he started realizing that there were moments where

he had clearly ignored her boundaries, like when he held her hand without asking, when he insisted on taking care of her while she was sick, or when he brought her home after she was discharged.
Every time, she said no.
And every time, he still made it happen.
Maybe that was the problem.
So he actually went online and looked it up, reading through advice about relationships, about how if you want someone to like you, you can’t force it, because while some things in life can be controlled, feelings are not one of them.
The more he thought about it, the more conflicted he became.
He didn’t believe Quinn truly rejected him.
But the way she acted made it hard to understand her.
Is she just going along with me because she feels pressured?
That possibility didn’t sit well with him.
He needed a real answer.
Lucy drove straight into the underground garage, and the two of them took a private elevator upstairs, where staff were already waiting to guide them, and the moment the doors opened, the warmth inside made it clear they had stepped into a completely different environment.
“Quinn, you can take your coat off now,” Lucy said, handing hers over as well.
She revealed her black evening dress underneath, simple but elegant.
The staff were used to seeing celebrities, but when Quinn removed her coat, there was a brief pause in their expressions.
