Chapter 236 Locked In

Finished

Lucy leaned back in her seat and deliberately stayed out of it, because from her perspective this was not something she should step into, and more importantly she trusted that Julian would never push Quinn into anything she did not want, and besides, she could tell just by watching that Quinn was not as indifferent as she pretended to be.

On stage, the program had already started to pick up momentum, the host easing into conversation before transitioning smoothly into a live performance, and the atmosphere in the room gradually settled into that polished, almost cinematic rhythm that big entertainment events always carried.

Quinn allowed herself a quick glance at Julian, just for a second, and from that angle his profile looked even sharper than usual, his jawline clean and defined, his nose straight, and his lashes unexpectedly thick under the lights, something she had never really paid attention to before but now could not ignore.

He looked completely focused on the stage, calm and composed, the soft glow from above reflecting faintly in his eyes.

Quinn pulled her gaze back almost immediately.

Why am I even noticing things like that?

Her phone buzzed softly in her hand.

Lucy sent a message: Quinn, is Julian here because of you? Should I leave first?

Quinn replied: No, don’t. He’s not here for me, and I don’t want to deal with him.

Lucy replied: Did you two argue? You should talk it out, don’t let it turn into something bigger, okay?

Quinn replied: There’s nothing to talk about. When are we leaving?

Lucy replied: After my guy performs, alright?

Quinn put her phone away and forced herself to focus on the stage again.

The performer was known for her looks just as much as her talent, the kind of beauty that got exaggerated online into something almost unreal, paired with a soft, controlled voice that fit perfectly with the atmosphere, and under the lights, in that flowing white outfit, she looked almost dreamlike in a very curated, very deliberate way.

Quinn could admit she was beautiful, and the performance itself was solid, but it still did not hold her attention for long.

At some point, almost without realizing it, Quinn glanced sideways again.

This time, Julian was not looking at the stage.

He was looking at her.

Their eyes met.

Fuushed-

For a brief moment, neither of them looked away, and the noise of the room, the music, the shifting lights, all of it seemed to fall into the background, like it had nothing to do with them anymore.

Quinn should have looked away.

That had always been her instinct.

But she did not.

There was something in his gaze that held her there, steady and unhurried, something she could not explain and did not know how to resist.

Why can’t I look away?

Time stretched in a way that did not feel real, the moment lingering just a little too long.

Then suddenly, a sharp burst of sound from the stage snapped everything back into place, followed by bright visuals flashing across the screen as the performance reached its peak.

Quinn came back to herself all at once.

Her face heated instantly.

What am I even doing?

She had been staring at him for that long. A quiet laugh sounded next to her.

Her face flushed even more, though thankfully the lighting in the audience was dim enough to hide it.

Julian leaned slightly closer, his voice low and close to her ear. So, was it good?

Quinn felt the heat rise all the way to her ears, but she kept her eyes forward and said nothing, pretending she had not heard him.

Julian continued, his tone calm, almost casual. You like her?

Only then did Quinn realize he was talking about the performance on stage.

She gave a vague response. Yeah, she’s good.

In reality, she barely knew anything about the performer beyond what Lucy had mentioned before.

Time seemed to slow down again after that, Quinn sitting there tense, waiting for Lucy’s idol to come on stage, feeling like every minute stretched longer than it should.

Julian did not say anything else.

But his presence did not fade.

If anything, it felt stronger, harder to ignore.

Then, without warning, Quinn noticed movement from the side of the stage.

The performer who had just finished was walking straight toward them.
