Chapter 252 It Breaks My Heart to See You Hurt
Julian stared at her.
hished
After what felt like a long while, Quinn could no longer hold his gaze and nodded almost involuntarily.
Only then did Julian break into a bright smile. “Quinn, thank you for giving me a chance to court you.”
Wait–court me?
I thought he said get to know me.
Quinn tried to explain, but it was too late.
“If you respect me, you should respect how I feel,” Julian said. “You can turn me down, but you shouldn’t doubt how sincere I am.”
Guilt and tenderness washed over Quinn. “I’m sorry…”
“It’s all right. I accept your apology, and I forgive you. Don’t let it happen again.”
Quinn had no idea how their conversation had ended with her apologizing. Is that even fair?
“As someone who’s pursuing you, can I ask you not to cook for now? At least not until your burn heals.”
“I’m fine, really,” Quinn said.
“You might be fine, but it would break my heart to see you bur
His straightforward words made her turn away, her cheeks flushing softly.
For a moment, neither of them spoke.
Just then, the bedroom door creaked
crack.
Lucy peeked out, looking pitiful. “Julian, can I come out now? I’m starving…”
Quinn stood up at once. “Lucy, I’m so sorry, I—”
She’d offered to cook, but she’d hurt herself instead, then gotten caught up talking to Julian and completely forgotten about her.
“Come out,” Julian said. “I had food sent over.”
It was too late for him to cook anything himself.
Quinn helped Lucy out, feeling awkward all over.
Julian knew he couldn’t rush. Haste makes waste.
Talking openly with her today was already a big step forward.

“I have to go now. I’ll come back to make dinner later.”
Lucy nodded quickly. “Got it, Julian!”
Julian glanced back at Quinn. “Stay out of the kitchen, okay?”
Quinn had no choice but to agree. “Okay”
Julian smiled. “Good girl.”
Quinn’s face turned red again.
Finished
Once Julian was gone, Lucy squealed quietly. “Ahhh! When he called you good girl just now, that was so smooth!”
Quinn wanted to change the subject right away. “Weren’t you hungry? Let me get you some bread to hold you over.”
“Wait wait–tell me what’s going on with you
two!”
“There’s nothing going on,” Quinn said quickly. “Really, nothing.”
“Quinn, you’re not gonna lie to your best friend, are you? Are you even gonna keep secrets from me?” Lucy pouted, even from her wheelchair.
Quinn had to lower her voice. “He… he said he wants to court me.”
“No way! Are you serious? Quinn, between us, Julian’s amazing. Give him a chance!”
Quinn smiled faintly. “I know.”
“So you don’t mind him anymore? Okay, he’s not the most obedient guy, but you can’t expect a boyfriend to just follow orders. That’s like wanting a kid instead of a boyfriend.”
“Stop talking nonsense.” Quinn nudged her. “Eat your bread.”
With her burn, Quinn stayed out of the kitchen for the rest of the day.
Right after five o’clock, Julian came back.
Quinn still felt shy when she saw him.
She thought she was a lost cause.
