Chapter 26 The Deadline
Chapter 26 The Deadline
Quinn’s eyes were red with fury as she argued, “I am your wife! How can you say something so inhuman?”
“But I never thought of you as my wife…”
Quinn shot to her feet. She couldn’t stay a second longer. She couldn’t stand to look at Chase.
He reached for her, and the moment he touched her, she screamed, yanking her arm away, “Don’t touch me!”
Thankfully, they were in a private room, but her reaction still startled him.
“What are you yelling about?”
It was only then that Quinn realized she couldn’t bear his touch. It made her sick to her stomach.

She took two steps back, putting distance between them, and said, “A divorce. I’ll talk to my parents. I’m sure they’ll support me when they find out what you did.”
“You can’t tell them!”
Chase panicked. He still wanted to be with Rosalie. How could he let her parents know about this?
“Fine. Then come with me right now and sign the papers.”
Chase hesitated. Rosalie was right. There were too many things to consider. Right now, he couldn’t get a divorce.
“I will divorce you,” he said. “Just not now.”
“When?” Quinn demanded.
“Let me make some arrangements. Quinn, don’t tell my parents, or…” he said as his brow furrowed. “It won’t be good for either of us. You don’t want everyone to know about this, do you?”
“Give me a date,” Quinn insisted. “A week? Ten days? How long?”
“I can’t say for sure…”
Quinn stood her ground.
“Ten days. I’ll give you ten days. Otherwise, I’m not afraid of the shame. I’m the victim. You’re the one who should be ashamed! If you don’t agree to a divorce, I’ll tell everyone everything!”
Chase was getting desperate.
“What do you hope to gain from that? I said I’ll divorce you! I have to make arrangements so that the company isn’t affected. Can’t you give me some time?”
Quinn didn’t want to exchange another word with him. She turned to leave. Chase moved to block her, reaching for her arm.
A wave of nausea washed over her. She clapped a hand over her mouth and ran to the restroom.
Chase froze. She is throwing up?
12:25 pm
“I don’t have my papers,” Chase said, avoiding her eyes. “Some other day.”
“Not some other day. Tomorrow. Eight–thirty. At the courthouse. I’ll be waiting.”
*Fine.”
As soon as she left, Quinn called Lucy.
“Lucy, you said you knew a really good lawyer. Can you give me her number?”
“Is the divorce not going smoothly?” Lucy asked, worried. “Don’t panic. The lawyer is my cousin. She’ll definitely help you! I’ll call her right now and have her contact you.”
Half an hour later, Quinn met with Veronica Young.
She was a beautiful woman with short hair, dressed in a sharp suit and high heels, exuding competence and style.
Veronica shook her hand, saying, “Lucy told me you’re in some trouble. What kind of case is it? I don’t handle divorces, but i can help if you need a referral.”
Quinn shook her head, replying, “It’s not about the divorce. There’s something I wanted to ask you about. I want to know if, in this situation, if I were to go to the police or sue, the other party would be convicted.”
Veronica’s expression turned serious as she asked, “What happened?”
“Can you keep this confidential?” Quinn asked.
