Veronica was the epitome of a competent, powerful woman. Her every move exuded professionalism and instilled a sense of security. But at that moment, her expression was a little lost, softening her strong aura and revealing a hint of feminine vulnerability.
“Veronica.”
Quinn knocked lightly on the door.
Veronica looked up.
Quinn had taken off her down jacket. She wore a simple black turtleneck sweater, light blue jeans, and white sneakers. She had no makeup on, her hair pulled back in a simple bun. No one would have guessed she had been married for three years. She looked like a freshman in college.
“Quinn, come in,” Veronica beckoned.
Quinn came in and closed the door.

“Sorry to keep you waiting.”
Veronica pulled her down to sit beside her.
“I just got here. Quinn, let me confirm one more time. The man you saw when you woke up, was it really Julian? Not someone who just looks like him?”
“I wouldn’t mistake him,” Quinn said. “It’s not just his face. His whole aura is unique. How could I be wrong?”
Veronica decided not to hide it from her any longer.
“Quinn, actually, Julian and I are related.”
Quinn’s mouth fell open, her eyes wide. She looked a little dazed, almost cute.
Veronica patted her head, explaining, “His mother and my mother are half–sisters. He’s my cousin. But don’t worry. I said I would help you, and I won’t take his side just because he’s family,”
Veronica had liked Quinn from the start, and Lucy had said so many good things about her. Lucy had a great personality, but she didn’t make friends easily. The fact that she was so close to Quinn made Veronica feel a certain affection for her cousin’s best friend.
Quinn came back to her senses, stammering, “Veronica, I didn’t know… If this makes things difficult for you, I can find another lawyer.”
“No other lawyer will dare to help you,” Veronica said. “Don’t worry, I stand for what’s right, not for family. If Julian really did something so terrible, and we can get the evidence, I will personally see to it that he is punished by the law.”
Quinn was silent, still surprised.
“Do you trust me?” Veronica asked.
“Lucy recommended you to me,” Quinn said. “I trust you.”

Seeing the change in Quinn’s expression, Veronica said quickly, “Quinn, don’t feel burdened. I’m sure if Lucy knew, she would make the same choice I did. We can’t let a criminal go just because he’s family.”
“Quinn, what’s wrong? You’re shaking!”
Tears filled Quinn’s eyes.
She pleaded, “Veronica, I don’t want to see him!”
She wiped her tears and pushed Veronica away to grab her coat and bag, saying, “I’m sorry, Veronica. Just pretend we never met!”
She turned to leave.
Veronica reached for her, replying, “Quinn! Okay, we won’t see him. Don’t be scared…”
“I’m serious,” Quinn said, her eyes red. “Thank you, Veronica. Just pretend you never saw me!”
She pulled her hand away, opened the door, and left.
Veronica frowned but didn’t follow. She had expected this might happen after telling Quinn about her relationship with Julian. In the end, Quinn didn’t trust her to go against her own family. Besides, she had arranged the meeting without consulting Quinn first.
