He turned to Quinn. “Shall we switch rooms?”

Quinn nodded. “Okay.”

Julian stepped aside to let her pass. “Let’s go.”

Quinn walked ahead, glanced at Jess, and said, “Let’s go.”

“Okay.”

Jess followed her out of the room.

Chase instinctively stepped forward.

Julian shot him a cold glance.

Chase froze, his feet rooted to the floor, unable to move an inch.

Only then did Julian turn and leave.

Chase stood there, deflated like a punctured balloon, completely stunned.

After a long while, he stumbled into a chair.

Much later, he pulled out his phone and dialed Elaine’s number.

“Chase?” Elaine’s voice was warm. “What’s wrong?”

Chase demanded, “How did Quinn get involved with Julian Sterling?”

Elaine froze. “Who? Who are you talking about?”

“Julian Sterling,” Chase said through gritted teeth. “The head of the Sterling family, the man who controls Lakeshore City’s entire financial scene!”

Elaine was dumbfounded. “What does that have to do with Quinn?”

“They were together today!” Chase said. “There’s something going on between them. Did you know about this?”

“What could they possibly have to do with each other?” Elaine said. “Quinn could never even meet someone like Julian Sterling.”

“She did,” Chase said. “And Julian himself admitted it–he’s pursuing her.”

“What?!” Elaine was shocked. “He… he said what?”

From her tone, Chase knew she had no idea either. Otherwise she wouldn’t be this surprised.

He repeated it. “Julian Sterling is pursuing Quinn.”

She waved her over. “Sit down. There’s something… I just can’t believe it. Here you are, still stuck with your love life, and that Quinn–she divorces Chase and already finds someone new.”

“What?” Rosalie was surprised. “She has a boyfriend now?”

She thought of Jess she’d seen at the store before.

But Jess had said he didn’t like women.

Rosalie was confused.

She couldn’t figure out what Quinn and Jess were to each other.

“Sort of,” Elaine said.

“What do you mean, sort of? Either she does or she doesn’t.”
