Chapter 418 She Might Be My Long-Lost Daughter

“I’m going with you Xenia said firmly.

Mark had no way to turn her down. “Fine then. If we still aren’t allowed in to see her, we’ll head straight back.”

He worried harsh words might be spoken, which would upset Xenia.

Xenia shared the very same thought. She feared Julian would vent alt his anger on Mark, and she wanted to stay by his side to comfort him.

They set off right away. Though it was already late, they cared more about showing their sincere concern than picking the perfect time. Waiting until the next day would feel far less heartfelt.

When they reached the ward entrance, the bodyguards blocked their path and refused to let them enter. Mark also had his own bodyguards accompanying him everywhere, as was common for people of their

status.

The commotion outside caught Julian’s ear. Not wanting the noise to disturb Quinn’s rest, he opened the door and stepped out. “What is going on here?”

He spotted Mark at once, then his gaze drifted naturally toward the woman standing beside him. Julian froze in place the instant he laid eyes on her.

Mark quickly stepped forward to block his line of sight. Even though Julian was nearly twenty years younger than him, he disliked anyone staring intently at his wife.

“Mr. Sterling,” Mark greeted politely. “How is your girl feeling?”

“She’s resting.” Julian pulled his thoughts together and suppressed the great shock surging inside him. “What brings you here so late?”

“My wife insisted on coming to offer our sincere apologies and concern in person,” Mark explained.

“She truly needs quiet rest. This is no excuse to turn you away casually.” Julian looked straight at Mark. “May I have a private word with you?”

Mark glanced over at Xenia, who nodded in understanding. The two men then walked toward the far end of the corridor.

“You may speak your mind,” Mark said. “I have already made it clear that I will look fully into this case and give you a proper answer.

“It is not about that.” Julian paused briefly, tapped a few times on his phone and handed it over to Mark.

Mark looked confused at first, then his expression darkened sharply. His tone turned icy cold right away. “Why do you have photos of my wife?”

To his surprise, these were old pictures taken back in Xenia’s younger days, ones that even he himself did not keep.

“Take a closer look. This is not your wife,” Julian reminded him.

Mark grew stunned. He held the phone carefully and studied the face in the photo closely. He soon noticed subtle differences. The girl in the picture had a sharper chin and rounder eyes. She bore an uncanny resemblance to Xenia, yet they were definitely not the same person.

Mark’s knuckles turned white as he gripped the phone tightly, and a strange uneasy feeling welled up in his heart. “Who exactly is she?”

Julian reached out to take his phone back. Mark’s fingers tightened unconsciously for a second before he slowly loosened his hold.

“She is my girlfriend,” Julian replied. “I was equally shocked the moment I saw your wife just now.”

Mark’s heart skipped a beat, and an unbelievable thought popped into his mind. “How old is she? Where did she grow up?”

“Her recorded age can be altered easily. She was raised in an orphanage before being adopted by her current foster parents.”

Mark staggered backward abruptly and leaned against the wall to steady himself.

“Looking alike does not prove anything,” Julian said calmly,

“May I arrange a paternity test with her?” Mark took a deep breath to steady his trembling voice. “They look far too identical. I cannot stop myself from thinking this through. She might be my long-lost daughter.”

Over the years, Mark had taken countless paternity tests. Wealth always drew countless strangers eager to claim kinship. Ever since his daughter went missing, hundreds of people had come forward pretending to be his child. Every test ended in bitter disappointment.

He had long stopped doing such tests, afraid repeated failures would break Xenia’s heart completely. Yet he himself could barely endure the endless cycle of hope followed by crushing despair.

This time felt entirely different. He had never seen anyone who resembled Xenia this closely, let alone a girl adopted out of an orphanage. The only confusing point was that he had searched nearly every orphanage across the region back then, and he had never found any trace of his child.

“I need to talk this over with her first,” Julian said.

“That is only reasonable,” Mark agreed softly.

“You may head back for now,” Julian continued. “Faye has met both my girlfriend and your wife. By now, I believe you have already figured out why she tried to harm my girl.”

Mark had long known the greedy plans Faye’s whole family harbored. Yet Faye’s grandfather had been close friends with his own father, who always treated them as close family without keeping boundaries. This made Faye’s family grow bold enough to take his wealth for granted.

Mark’s face clouded over with cold anger. If Faye and her parents really committed such a cruel crime simply because Quinn shared the same face as Xenia, they truly had no regard for human life at all
