Mark had always hoped his relatives would know how to be grateful. He could tolerate their easy lives, but he would never stand by while they bit the hand that fed them and plotted harm against him. Such shallow-minded foes were not even worth him dealing with personally.

He merely sent people to look into Troy and his wife, and soon gained access to their private talks and secret schemes inside their hotel room.

Everything became crystal clear. Faye had targeted Quinn solely because she had seen her face. She jumped to the reckless conclusion that Quinn was Mark and Xenia’s long-lost daughter without any solid proof at all.

Just out of groundless suspicion, she chose to hurt an innocent young woman without a second thought.

Sorrow welled up deep inside Mark’s heart. He had showered these kin with generous money and sincere family affection for years. He never expected anything in return, yet he at least hoped they could hold basic gratitude in their hearts.

Reality proved far crueler. Not only did they show no gratitude, they even planned brutal harm toward the girl who might well be his own child. He could hardly believe how cold-blooded and heartless this whole family truly was.

Faye’s elder brother also hurried over to Lakeshore City soon after Troy made the call. All of them held stable positions within Mark’s enterprise. Mark had always treated them fairly and never wronged any of them in the slightest, yet this was how they chose to repay his kindness.

Mark forced his rising anger down silently. He needed to give Julian a proper answer, and more importantly, settle this matter for himself. He decided to cut ties completely with these ungrateful relatives.

He intended to let Faye serve her full sentence behind bars. As for the rest of her family members, he planned to deal with each one of them slowly and thoroughly. Whether Quinn turned out to be his biological daughter or not, none of these cruel people would escape punishment.

Julian noticed the heavy dark circles under Mark’s eyes and knew the man had endured a sleepless and torturous night. Still, he personally doubted that Quinn was actually Mark’s daughter.

In Julian’s opinion, reuniting with birth parents might not bring happiness, and could even bring fresh pain to Quinn. She already lived a steady wonderful life now. She had his sincere love, a thriving career, and they were bound to get married and build a warm little family in the days ahead. Her future was destined to be bright and joyful.

Yet Mark’s family was filled with greedy and vicious relatives. If Quinn really was their blood kin, she would surely get dragged into endless troubles. Julian could not bear to imagine such a terrible outcome. He thought it would be far better for Quinn to never meet such birth family, and his love for her would never waver in the slightest.

Mark rubbed his face anxiously and spoke to Julian, “Have the test results come out yet?” He was clearly too anxious to stay calm. He knew Julian would tell him the truth the moment the results were ready.

Julian shook his head gently. “Not yet, they should be ready very soon.”

“How did she react when you talked to her about this?” Mark asked nervously, his heart twisted tight with

worry.

He had gone through countless similar identification tests over the years, leaving him worn out and hopeless. This time was entirely different though, for he had a strong unexplainable premonition lingering in his mind. He was dying to know Quinn’s true feelings about finding her biological family.

He had stayed awake all night and secretly looked up detailed records about Quinn. The files showed that she had been adopted by Victor and Elaine at the age of two and a half. The couple worked as university tutors and had no children of their own at first. Four years later, they welcomed their own biological daughter home when Quinn was around six years old.

Official records stated they treated all children equally. Quinn had always been an outstanding top student ever since primary school. Two local middle schools even offered farge scholarship rewards just to recruit her in her early teens. In the end, she chose the school that paid more instead of the one with a better public reputation.

This small detail already made Mark sense something unusual. Her middle school and college years seemed plain and uneventful on file. Limited time prevented investigators from digging deeper hidden truths.

Then Mark caught sight of her past marriage record, which shocked him greatly. She had gotten married at a very young age, yet her former husband was definitely not Julian. He could hardly believe someone of Julian’s status would choose to date a divorced woman.
