Judging by Quinn’s usual attitude, she always tried to keep as much distance from Julian as possible,
Julian asked, “What is it?”
Watching from the side. Veronica could not help wanting to comment.
She had not interacted with Julian very often, but they still saw each other during holidays and family gatherings.
Who would dare ask Julian to wait?
Even if someone did call out to him, Julian would usually look over with cold eyes. Sometimes he would say nothing at all.
If he happened to be in a decent mood or speaking to someone close to him, he might spare two words. “Something wrong?”
But today, when Quinn called his name, he asked, “What is it?”
Just three simple words.
Yet Veronica somehow heard a deep hint of tenderness in them.
That was the difference.
Quinn glanced at Veronica. Veronica smiled.
For a moment she suddenly understood the joy people felt when they shipped two people together.
And she was witnessing it live. Julian suddenly looked over.
Veronica jolted slightly and hurriedly said, “Do you… want me to step out?”
Quinn immediately shook her head. “No.”
She had only looked at Veronica instinctively, hoping to borrow a little courage before speaking to Julian.
The truth was, she did not want to talk to him at all. She certainly did not want to be alone with him.
But there was something she had to make clear.
Julian looked at her again, his voice lower now. “Alright. Go ahead.”
Quinn took a deep breath. “May I ask something?” she said. “Those two bodyguards. Are they your people?”
She did not even call him Seven anymore.
Veronica could not help feeling a little disappointed. Julian stepped forward.
Quinn immediately stepped back several feet. The scene was almost painful to watch.

Julian seemed to understand what she meant.
“Yes,” he said. “They work for me. After what happened to you on the yacht, I was worried someone might come looking for trouble, so I asked them to keep an eye out for you.”
“That won’t be necessary,” Quinn said. “I appreciate your kindness, Mr. Sterling. But I really cannot trouble you anymore. Please call them back.”
Julian’s gaze shifted slightly.
Veronica could not stop herself from speaking. “Quinn, about Chase…”
“It’s okay,” Quinn said. “Even if this incident does not teach him a lesson, I will still divorce him. Once the divorce is final, there will be nothing tying us together anymore.”
Julian said, “Alright. I’ll have them leave.”
“Thank you.”
Her tone was polite, but distant. Julian’s thin lips moved slightly, yet in the end he said nothing.
“Get some rest,” he said.
After that, his tall figure disappeared through the doorway. Veronica stood there for a second before hurrying after him.
“I’ll walk you out.”
Once outside, she closed the door behind her and said quietly, “Give her some time. A lot has happened lately. Her mind must be in chaos.”
Julian did not comment. “Go back inside. No need to see me off.”
Veronica sighed. “My marriage is a complete mess, so I’m probably the last person who should give relationship advice,” she said. “But Quinn is a good woman. If… I mean if you two ever do end up together, please don’t make her cry again.”
“I know what I’m doing.”
Veronica returned to the apartment and saw Quinn standing there awkwardly.
“Quinn, it’s been a long day. You should get some sleep.”
“Veronica… I’m sorry,” Quinn said softly. “Do you think I’m being ungrateful?”
“I understand how you feel, and I respect your decision.” Veronica smiled and gently pushed her toward the bedroom. “You know something? You might be the first person who has ever turned Julian down.”
“He’s a good man,” Quinn said. “But I feel like we live in two completely different worlds. The kindness he’s shown me… I have no way to repay it.”
“Don’t overthink it.” Veronica guided her to sit on the edge of the bed. “Get a good night’s rest. You still

have to go to the police station tomorrow.”
They chatted for a few more minutes before Veronica prepared to return to her own room.
“Veronica.” Quinn called out.
Veronica turned around. “Something else?”
“If it’s possible… I don’t want to see Mr. Sterling anymore,” Quinn said quietly. “If we ever end up somewhere where he’ll be present, could you please let me know beforehand?”

Veronica had just discovered the joy of shipping them together. And now the main characters had handed her heartbreak.
She forced a small smile. “Well… Quinn, some situations are out of my control. All I can say is I’ll try.”
“Thank you.”
“Get some sleep.”
That night. Quinn barely slept.
What had happened on the yacht had left her with both psychological and physical trauma. She had not even begun to recover from that pain before Chase treated her the way he did.
And then there were Elaine and Victor, their harsh words, their favoritism, their cold indifference.
The pain inside her kept building, pressing down on her chest until it was almost hard to breathe.
She did not know how long it took. Maybe it was almost dawn when she finally drifted into a shallow sleep.
It felt like she had barely closed her eyes when her phone started ringing.
Her head felt heavy and foggy, as if filled with cotton. Her whole body was weak.
A splitting headache throbbed behind her eyes.
