As Charles beat him, he forced the whole truth out of his mouth. “You idiot! That woman is clearly playing you. Rosalie doesn’t even like you. She’s just stringing you along while you chase after her like a lovesick puppy. If you had even half a brain, you wouldn’t let someone jerk you around like this!”

The moment Charles brought up Rosalie, Chase immediately protested.

“Dad, that’s not true. None of this has anything to do with Rosalie…”

“Shut your mouth!”

Charles planted his hands on his hips and paced the room several times, irritation written all over his face.

Finally he stopped and said, “Get a divorce. Let Quinn go. Stop ruining that girl’s life.”

“Dad!” Chase blurted out. “If we divorce, it’ll have a huge impact on the company!”

“Oh, now you remember the company?” Charles snapped. “When you were blinded by that ridiculous crush, did you think about the company? When I told you to marry for the family’s interests, did you think about the company then?”

Chase lowered his head and didn’t dare say another word.

Seeing him like that only made Charles more frustrated. Still, the mess his son had created was something he had to clean up.

“You think Quinn won’t blow this whole thing up?” Charles continued. “If she does, the company’s reputation will be completely ruined. That would be far worse. So stop dragging this out and get the divorce done.”

“But she already reported me to the police,” Chase muttered.

Charles let out a long sigh. “What else can I do? I’ll swallow my pride and go apologize to her myself.”

“Dad… I’m sorry.”

Charles looked at him. “From now on, I only have one request.”

“What is it?”

“Cut off all contact with Rosalie.”

“Dad!”

“If you don’t listen, then stop calling me Dad,” Charles said coldly. “I won’t recognize you as my son anymore.”

Not long after that, Quinn received another call from Charles.

“Quinn,” he said, his tone heavy. “I’m calling to apologize for the terrible things my son has done. I don’t expect you to forgive him. If you want a divorce, I’ll support that decision. Whatever terms you have, we’ll agree to them.”

Quinn finally let out a long breath of relief. Thankfully, Charles was a reasonable man.

“I don’t have any demands,” she said. “I don’t want any money from the Sterling family. I just want a divorce.”

“No one’s taking what’s yours,” Charles said. “Quinn, could you do me a favor and drop the charges? I promise he won’t bother you again. Just take the settlement. With that money, you’ll be set for life.”

“I don’t trust him,” Quinn said calmly. “But I do trust your word.”

“Thank you,” Charles said sincerely. “When would it be convenient for you to finalize the paperwork?”

Quinn glanced at the IV bottle hanging beside her hospital bed.

“This afternoon,” she said. “Three o’clock. Tell him to bring the divorce papers. I’ll meet him at the courthouse.”

“Alright.”

After she hung up. Lucy quickly asked, “So? Did he agree to the divorce?”

“His dad is pretty reasonable,” Quinn said. “We’re going this afternoon to handle the paperwork.”

Lucy practically jumped with excitement. “That’s amazing! You can finally get rid of that jerk!”

Veronica had just returned from running errands. When she heard the news, she was happy for Quinn as well.

“I’ll go with you,” she said. “But just so you know, even if you file today, the court still has a mandatory waiting period. The judge won’t finalize the divorce right away.”

Lucy blinked in surprise. “Seriously? Why does it take so long?”

Quinn frowned slightly. “How long are we talking about?”

“That depends on the court’s schedule,” Veronica explained. “Usually a few weeks before the judge signs off on the divorce decree. There’s not much we can do to speed it up. But since the Sterling family already agreed to the settlement, there shouldn’t be any complications.”

Quinn nodded.

As long as the divorce could go through, waiting a little longer was something she could live with.

“I’ll review the settlement agreement for you when the time comes,” Veronica added. “Any marital assets you’re entitled to, you shouldn’t walk away from them.”

“I don’t want his money.” Quinn said.

The three of them kept chatting. While Lucy and Quinn were deep in conversation, Veronica quietly stepped out of the hospital room.

She pulled out her phone and called Julian.

“Good news,” she said. “Quinn’s filing for divorce this afternoon. Chase already agreed to the settlement.”

Meanwhile, Chase was on the phone.

“You can’t get divorced!” Rosalie’s anxious voice came through the receiver.

Hearing her panic made Chase feel both guilty and touched.

“Rosalie, I don’t want to either,” he said helplessly. “But my dad is putting a lot of pressure on me. And your parents… they already found out what happened on the yacht. I honestly don’t even know how to explain it anymore.”

Rosalie thought for a moment before speaking.

“What happened on the yacht wasn’t really your fault. I’ll talk to my parents and explain it to them. They’ll understand. As for your father, if you refuse to divorce no matter what, what can he really do?”

“My dad is terrifying,” Chase said miserably. “He smashed my forehead open. If I refuse to divorce, I’m afraid he’ll beat me again.”

Rosalie silently cursed in her heart.
