Divorce Him, Then Dazzle novel Chapter 10

She shot up from her seat, moving so quickly that her shoulder hit the coat rack beside her.

“Careful.”

A cool, woody cologne drifted in the air. Looking up, she found him—tall and steady, standing right next to her with his hand on the wobbling rack. He looked almost impossibly put together, sharp and solid, like he was born to fit in these warm yellow lights. His cashmere coat and suit jacket were gone and he wore just a crisp black shirt, sleeves rolled neatly to his forearms, showing off strong wrists and the faint lines of blue veins beneath his pale skin. There was this quiet, magnetic energy about him that made it hard to look away.

Something unsettling flickered low in Camilla’s chest. She mumbled a rushed “Thank you” and started to back up, only to nearly step all over Susan.

“Cammie, seriously, what’s with you today? You’re a mess.” Susan caught her with a grin, clearly amused.

“I’m sorry, are you okay? Did I step on you?” Camilla tried to check, her cheeks hot.

Susan waved her off. “You missed me. It’s just the weather getting weird. You should hurry home and drive safe, alright?”

Not daring to hang around any longer, Camilla nodded, made sure Susan really was fine, then pulled on her coat and left.

Susan watched her go, then turned her gaze to Lambert, sizing him up. “You’re acting strange today.”

Lambert moved to grab his coat too. “Don’t start. I still need your help with my mom’s vintage dress.”

Susan’s smile was all knowing. “You hardly ever come by, and when you do, it’s always in and out. Today you actually waited almost half an hour. Was it really just about your mom’s dress?”

The way Susan looked at him said she wasn’t buying it for a second.

Lambert stood tall, his movements clean as he shrugged into his coat. Susan came over and smoothed the lapel for him. “Listen, Cammie is gorgeous, but don’t get any ideas. She’s married.”

“I know,” Lambert said calmly.

“You know?” Susan’s eyebrows lifted. “You two know each other?”

Lambert gave a soft hum in reply. He adjusted his cuffs. “I have stuff to do. I’ll get going.”

Lambert had always been the guy everyone talked about—every socialite and heiress wanted a shot at him. But he kept his distance, sharp and proud, never easy to approach.

Faust knew exactly how he worked. Lambert didn’t bother to reply.

Faust kept going. “I get that you’re not into any of them, but could you at least humor my grandma? You wouldn’t believe what people are saying about you behind your back.”

“Not interested,” Lambert said, unbothered.

Faust huffed. “Honestly, I don’t get it. With your personality, why do they all crush on you like that?” He continued, trying not to laugh. “They’re even saying you look like you could pick them up with one hand. Trust me—half the city’s dying to find out if you live up to the hype.”

Lambert frowned. “What are you even talking about?” He started to hang up. “I’m done with this.”

“Wait, wait!” Faust said. “About your yacht—when are you taking me out on it?”

Lambert let out a breath. “This weekend. Bring a couple of people and I’ll set it up.”
