He looked over, his eyes twinkling, brighter than yesterday's falling snow.
Camilla felt the rush of heat spread across her cheeks and ducked her head.
When Lambert spoke again, he sounded like he was holding back a laugh. "Got it. Thanks for the compliment, Cammie."
Latonia watched the whole thing and couldn't help but click her tongue in amusement. Honestly, Camilla didn't stand a chance against Lambert. He'd never dated anyone before—he'd been single forever—but somehow, he seemed to have Camilla figured out from the start. And she, for all her intelligence, was absolutely helpless against him.
Latonia thought, once Camilla's divorce came through, it wouldn't be long before there was good news about these two.
Before Camilla could gather her thoughts, Lambert said, "Let me know when you're ready to look at the jewelry. I have something to take care of, so I'll see you around."
After he spoke, he gave Camilla one last look, then walked away—tall, straight, broad shouldered. Even watching him walk away left Camilla oddly flustered.
"My cousin's pretty handsome, don't you think?" Latonia asked.
Camilla quickly looked away, tucking her hair behind her ear, flustered.
Latonia laughed. "But you know, he's twenty-eight and hasn't even been in a relationship yet. Isn't that a little sad?"
"I wouldn't call it sad," Camilla said. "Everyone has their own situation. With everything he's got going for him, if he wanted to date, I don't think he'd ever have trouble finding someone."
"Exactly," Latonia agreed. "He's just picky. If he doesn't like someone for real, he would rather stay single than just settle."
Camilla just murmured, "Yeah."
Latonia let it drop, and after parking, the two of them headed toward the coffee shop.
They showed up early and waited about ten minutes before the client arrived. Latonia made the introductions. Once everyone sat down, she said, “Ladd asked to meet you,” Latonia said. “That’s a good sign. Now's the time if you have any ideas about the jewelry design, you can talk them over with Camilla."
Ladd said, "I'm busy at work myself, and sometimes these things take a few meetings to nail down the details. I’ll be needing Camilla's help a lot more."
Latonia was thrilled. "So, does this mean you trust her with the project?"
He nodded. "Absolutely. Camilla’s perfect for it."
They dove into the design and talked for over an hour. Eventually, Ladd got a call and had to leave.
Camilla felt a wave of happiness and a little bit of excitement. The fee Ladd offered was seriously impressive.
"Latonia, tomorrow dinner’s on me for you and Catheleen!" Camilla said with a huge smile. "Drive safe going home. I’m heading to the dressmaker before I go back."
Latonia offered her a ride, but Camilla waved her off and called a cab to Susan’s shop instead.
