“Camilla, if you don’t want people to find out, then you shouldn’t do it in the first place,” Jackson said, his tone heavy with disappointment. “Yes, Daniel hurt you… but he really regrets what he did. That doesn’t mean you should go and do something just as bad, just for revenge.”
Camilla stared at her phone, totally thrown off. “What are you even talking about? Can you just say it straight? Who called you? What did they say? Are you seriously accusing me of something?”
Jackson hesitated. “I haven’t told Daniel about this yet. Camilla, if you’re doing this to get back at him, I think we should call it quits right now. Just forgive him, I’ll drop everything, and you two can go back to how you were before. What do you say?”
Suddenly, it all clicked for Camilla. She gave a short, humorless laugh. “So you’re just randomly accusing me of something awful because you want me to forgive your son? I can’t believe I ever expected anything better from either of you.”
With that, she ended the call.
Honestly, Daniel was a total jerk, and Jackson wasn’t much better.
Camilla finally felt ready to let go of everything holding her back. She messaged Latonia: Latonia, can you help me file the paperwork? I want a divorce.
Latonia called her right away. “Are you sure? You’re not worried about what Daniel’s dad might do anymore?”
Camilla just laughed, almost incredulous. “You know what his dad said to me? He accused me of cheating. It’s ridiculous!”
“Try not to let it get to you,” Latonia said, sounding gentle. “If you’ve made up your mind, I’ll get it started.”
At last, something was happening. Camilla knew this could be a long process. She was more than ready to fight, even if it took more than one try.
No matter what, she was ending this marriage.
It didn’t take long for Daniel to get the court summons. He was furious and stormed into Jackson’s office, face tight with anger.
“Dad! Look at what she’s done!” He slammed the papers down on Jackson’s desk.
Jackson picked them up, his brow furrowed.
“What do we do now?” Daniel’s voice was tense.
Jackson let out a slow breath. “I hadn’t planned to tell you this, but you should know by now.”
He turned to leave, but Jackson called out, “You haven’t been in touch with that Barbara, have you?”
For a second, Daniel froze. Guilt flickered in his eyes, but he recovered fast. “Of course not.”
Back in his own office, Daniel couldn’t wait any longer. He called Barbara right away. “Barbie, I have to divorce Camilla. She cheated on me. Can you believe it? She actually cheated on me!”
Barbara took a second to process. “She cheated? Are you serious?”
“I swear, my dad looked into it and found out. It’s been going on for ages. She’s so… messed up. Barbie, I need to leave her.”
A thrill ran through Barbara, though she tried to hide it. “Wow, I can’t believe she’d do that. Do you know who it is? What does he do?”
“I have no idea,” Daniel snapped. “Doesn’t matter who it is. What matters is she cheated. I can’t stand it!”
“Just breathe for a minute,” Barbara said, trying to soothe him. “I never thought she’d do something like this. If my parents found out about any of this, they’d be furious…”
