Camilla’s heart jumped at the sound of Lambert’s name. Without thinking, she looked up, eyes searching for him.
She spotted him through the crowd, standing taller than anyone else. He was in his usual sleek black suit, moving toward her with that familiar, calm confidence. This time, though, there was something different—something urgent in the way he walked.
The moment Camilla saw him, she could breathe again—like the room had stopped closing in.
Most people didn’t recognize Lambert, but everyone sensed there was something about him. The chatter dropped off as people stepped aside, almost without realizing it, making a clear path for him. His presence just commanded attention. The crowded, noisy lobby instantly went quiet.
Everyone watched as Lambert walked right up to Camilla. He looked at her with a steady, almost gentle concern.
“Are you okay?” His voice was cool, but she could hear the care behind it.
Camilla shook her head, wanting to say she was fine, but her eyes stung and tears started falling before she could help it. She looked down quickly, brushing the tears away with the back of her hand. Forcing herself to steady her voice, she finally managed a quiet, “Yeah… I’m fine.”
Lambert’s gaze lingered on her for a moment. Then he turned, his attention shifting to Ladd.
Ladd was just now snapping out of his shock. How on earth did Camilla know Lambert? And judging by the look on Lambert’s face, their relationship was definitely not just some passing acquaintance.
Trying to collect himself, Ladd hurried over and stuck out his hand. “Mr. White, I’m Ladd. I’m not sure if you remember me?”
Lambert didn’t even move. He just glanced at Ladd, cold and uninterested. Ladd could feel sweat trickle down his back.
Desperate to cover his nerves, Ladd mumbled, “Sorry about this… really, I didn’t mean for things to get out of hand…”
But Lambert was already looking past him, his sharp gaze landing on Henrietta.
“Mrs. Clark?” Lambert asked, voice flat.
Ladd barely glanced down before his eyes went wide with horror. He clutched the photos to his chest, not letting anyone else see.
Lambert’s tone was unforgiving. “Still not ready to admit it?”
Ladd’s voice sounded desperate. “Mr. White, please, I’ve been married almost thirty years. I just can’t hurt my wife like this…”
Lambert shot back, colder than before. “Did you think about that while you were cheating? Go on, tell everyone. Is the woman you cheated with the one standing right here?”
Ladd kept his mouth shut.
Lambert’s attention returned to him, sharp as ever. “The Clark Group. That’s your company, isn’t it?”
Ladd’s whole body jolted. He gave up trying to deny it. “Alright, alright, I’ll talk. Yes, I had an affair, but it wasn’t with Camilla. It started five years ago… it was someone else.”
