“You barely know my dad and you’re already in his bed. How desperate are you?” Maddox spat, his eyes red with fury. Then he turned toward Ladd. “Dad, I can’t believe you. I’m seriously disappointed.”

The crowd buzzed with energy. Someone shouted, “Don’t even try to reason with a homewrecker like her. I’m posting photos online right now—everyone deserves to see what a shameless woman looks like!”

Another person in the crowd piped up. “These mistresses are getting braver every day. Look how upset the wife is!”

Catheleen’s voice rang out. “Ladd! Say something!”

Ladd shot a desperate look at Camilla. “Ms. Green, maybe you should just leave for now. I’ll handle everything…”

Camilla stared at him, stunned. “Leave? Are you kidding? We have to clear this up.”

“She’s right!” Catheleen said. “You can’t just let people say whatever they want. Ladd, tell them the truth. You and Camilla aren’t…whatever they’re saying, right?”

Ladd hesitated, his expression pleading. “It’s complicated. Just trust me, okay? Please go home first. I’ll call you later.”

That wishy-washy answer made things even worse. To everyone watching, it looked like he was hiding something.

Maddox’s anger boiled over. “Dad! You’re still defending her after all this?”

“Be quiet!” Ladd snapped. “Do you want to send your mom to the hospital?”

“Oh, now you care about Mom? If you really loved her, you wouldn’t be sneaking around with someone else.”

Camilla stood up straighter, her voice cold and steady. “Call the police, Catheleen. Let them handle this.”

Catheleen didn’t hesitate. “Already on it.” She grabbed her phone.

Ladd rushed to stop her. “Ms. Green, please. Calm down. This is our family issue. Let’s not make it worse…”

“Ladd, there’s nothing between us,” Camilla said, her voice breaking. “Is it so hard for you to just say that out loud?”

“Oh really? Then why were you seen going into a hotel with him and not coming out for hours?” Maddox glared hard. “You think I don’t have proof?”

Anger, anxiety, and humiliation tangled up inside Camilla. She took a shaky breath, voice trembling as she tried to defend herself.

Ladd just sighed. “We’ve been married so long. After everything we’ve been through, how could you still doubt me?”

Catheleen looked like she was about to explode. “You need to apologize right now. All of you.”

Maddox wasn’t so easily convinced, but he hated making his mom feel worse in front of everyone.

No one in the crowd really believed Camilla, either. They had all already decided she was the other woman.

Camilla felt her cheeks burn with humiliation. She wished there was a way to prove her innocence, but she couldn’t think of anything.
