The hotel lobby was buzzing with people, everyone drawn by the drama unfolding nearby. When Adah and her group walked in, they couldn't help looking over, curious about what was going on. That’s when they spotted Camilla at the center of it all.

Lean and Adah exchanged a look. In their minds, crowds like this always meant trouble. People with their backgrounds just didn’t get involved in public scenes. They certainly never expected Camilla would be the one everyone was gathered around.

Daniel was with the group, too. As soon as he saw Camilla, he wasted no time crossing the room to get to her. Camilla looked up and was clearly caught off guard to see familiar faces.

Daniel tried to sound warm and friendly. “Lambert, what brings you here? And Camilla, are you alright? Did something happen?”

Earlier, the view had been blocked, so none of them realized Lambert was there as well. As Daniel drew closer and recognized him, the anger he’d been holding in toward Camilla—after not being able to reach her for days—melted away. His whole demeanor shifted when he saw who she was with.

Lambert didn’t answer Daniel, just gave him a chilly stare.

Camilla spoke first. “Mom, Dad, why are you here?”

Adah pulled her gaze off Lambert. Even at her age, she'd never seen a guy with so much presence, not to mention those looks. And judging from the way Daniel acted, she could tell Lambert was someone important.

Adah straightened up, her manners on full display. “Well, New Year’s is coming up, and Barbie thought it would be nice if Daniel brought us and some colleagues out for a meal. We didn’t expect to run into you here. Did something happen?”

Just like that, she made it clear—she was proud of being a university professor and wanted everyone to know.

Camilla managed a thin smile, but there was resignation in her eyes. Only Barbara could manage to pull the strings all the way from abroad, getting Daniel to host a dinner like this even when their marriage was falling apart.

“It’s nothing you need to worry about,” Camilla said. “Don’t let it ruin your dinner plans.”

Lambert turned, fixing Ladd with a cold look.

Ladd stammered, “I’m sorry. I never should have involved Ms. Green. This whole thing was my own mess, and it had nothing to do with her. The affair rumor is a total lie.”

Daniel looked like he wanted to say more, but Camilla had already decided she’d had enough. She turned to Ladd and said, “Let’s forget about the jewelry design project. Ladd, maybe next time think about your conscience before you do something like this.”

Catheleen rolled her eyes. “Conscience? Please. I doubt he has one. Cammie worked for days on your request, only to get their reputation trashed. You all put her through so much—at the very least, you owe her for what she’s been through.”

Ladd nodded quickly. “I’ll transfer the payment for the design to your account today. Please accept it as an apology.”
