Divorce Him, Then Dazzle novel Chapter 163

Catheleen looked over at her. “Cammie, come on, just say what you want. Let's make him treat us tonight.”

Camilla didn’t really know Lambert that well. She already felt awkward enough snooping around his collection, so the idea of letting him pay for a late-night meal made her nervous.

She rushed to say, “You pick. Tonight’s on me.”

Then she added for Lambert’s sake, “By the way, I got that payment Ladd promised today. I really should thank you, Mr. White.”

Lambert replied, “You earned it. And if you’re hungry, just tell me what you want and I’ll take you there.”

Catheleen chimed in, “Cammie, stop being so polite with him. He can handle the bill,” Catheleen said breezily. “Let him be generous for once.”

She shot Lambert a grin. “So, Lambert, how about taking us out for something amazing?”

Lambert drove them down a narrow side street and stopped in front of a tucked-away courtyard restaurant.

Catheleen took a look around. “This place is impossible to find. You’ve never brought me here before.”

Lambert just said, “There are a lot of places I haven’t taken you.”

Catheleen looped her arm through Camilla’s. “So what, you mean I’ve got Cammie to thank for this?”

Lambert glanced at her without answering.

Catheleen got the hint and quickly switched topics. “Cammie, look, red lanterns!”

At the courtyard’s entrance, two big red lanterns hung and swayed gently in the night, glowing warm and festive.

In Camilla’s mind, a midnight snack was just something quick and simple, nothing fancy. She wasn’t expecting Lambert to bring them to a place that looked straight out of an old movie.

The owner came out to greet them, acting like it was completely normal for customers to arrive at midnight.

Once inside, they realized the courtyard restaurant was totally empty except for their group.

Lambert suggested a few dishes for them. It was so late that no one wanted to overeat, so he picked lighter things.

Halfway through eating, Catheleen’s phone lit up. “I need to take this call,” she said, getting up.

Who could possibly be calling her at this hour?

Lambert let out a small laugh.

The sound made Camilla glance up at him.

He was handsome, but most of the time he looked so serious, like nothing could shake him. His presence alone was intimidating.

But right now, he was actually smiling. The stern lines of his face softened. For a moment, it was like a glimpse of spring breaking through winter. The corners of his lips curled and his eyes glimmered, like there was actual starlight caught in them.

For a second, Camilla felt like she could hear the world coming alive, flowers blooming just from his smile.

Lambert was watching her too.

She knew her own expression was probably a little wide-eyed and lost. Her big eyes must have looked a little innocent, maybe even helpless, like a fawn that had wandered off the trail. There was something about it that just called out for someone to take care of her.

Lambert was the one to look away first. He hadn’t touched any alcohol, but he reached for the ice water beside him and took a sip.

Ever since that night on the yacht, being alone with Camilla set his mind spinning with all sorts of thoughts.

Truthfully, he figured it was normal. Maybe even something… wonderful.
