Just thinking about her felt wrong, like he was crossing some invisible line. No matter how hard he tried, he just couldn’t help himself sometimes. Self-control had always been something he took pride in, but it was pretty much useless when it came to Camilla.
Catheleen had wanted to give them a little privacy, but she also worried Camilla might feel awkward if she stayed away too long. So she made a quick trip to the bathroom, then came right back.
She walked in with a bright smile. “Hey, what are you two talking about?”
With three people at the table, the conversation got a lot livelier. Camilla finally seemed to relax.
When dinner was over, it was already almost one in the morning.
Lambert drove them home. Catheleen hopped out and waved. “Bye, Lambert!”
Camilla walked over too, smiling politely. “Mr. White, drive safe. Thank you for tonight.”
Lambert just nodded. “It’s late. Get some rest.”
He didn’t stick around, pulling away into the night.
Camilla turned to leave, but Catheleen grabbed her hand. “Cammie! Let’s hit a bar!”
“Huh?” Camilla blinked in surprise. “It's so late…”
“Come on! Bars are just getting fun at this hour!” Catheleen shook Camilla’s arm, refusing to let go. “Please, Cammie, come with me. Please?”
Camilla couldn’t say no to her. She sighed. “Alright, I’ll go with you.”
“Yes!” Catheleen was practically bouncing as she pulled Camilla toward her car. “My friends have been texting me all night. There are a ton of male models there—catwalks, singing, dancing, the whole deal. It sounds amazing!”
Camilla knew Catheleen loved excitement. She hadn’t been out in days and was probably dying of boredom.
By the time they rolled up to the bar, it was already past two in the morning.
Camilla forced herself to focus on the stage, but the performance was seriously intense. The MC shifted, spreading his knees as he slowly slid down to kneel. Every muscle was on display, every move tempting.
Catheleen screamed, the sound right against Camilla’s ear.
Camilla felt even more embarrassed and tried to look away, but Catheleen pulled her closer to the action.
Apparently, it was a thing at this bar for the MCs to interact with the crowd. The performer spotted Catheleen and gestured for her to come up. Catheleen squealed and jumped on stage. The MC stayed on his knees, tilted his head back, and offered her a lollipop straight from his mouth. Catheleen bit the stick and took the chance to run her hand over his chest.
Camilla had to look away. This was way too much for her.
But then, the MC pointed at her for the next round.
At the same time, up on the second floor, Faust watched the whole thing. He’d seen Camilla, too.
