Lambert moved a dish that Camilla liked in front of her.
Only then did he look at Catheleen. "I was afraid you wouldn't get enough to eat."
"Lambert, I'm not a pig!"
Lambert gave her a look that seemed to say, *You're not far off.*
But when he looked at Camilla, his words were gentle. "If you like the food, I'll bring you both again next time. Don't eat so quickly."
Catheleen was hungry and eating a bit fast.
In contrast, Camilla ate slowly, chewing her food delicately.
But she ate with such focus, and it was a lovely sight.
Her earnest appreciation for the food made one happy just watching, and it seemed to improve one's own appetite.
Just watching her eat was a pleasure in itself.
Catheleen glanced up and saw the once ascetic, desire-free Lambert watching Camilla with a smile in his eyes.
The man who was usually so cold he wouldn't spare a single word for a stranger was practically a chatterbox tonight.
Honestly, she had known Lambert for over twenty years and had never seen him smile like that.
Why was it a little creepy?
Catheleen's eyes darted. "You two eat. I'm going to the restroom."
The private room had its own restroom, and Catheleen went right in with her phone, planning to scroll through short videos for twenty minutes.
Once Catheleen left, Camilla and Lambert were alone.
Camilla's eating pace slowed even more.
"If you like the food here, I'll bring you... you both here again next time."
Now it was just the two of them. That sentence was definitely directed at her.
Camilla quickly put down her fork. "It's delicious. It's just that I probably won't ever come to a place like this again. The food is wonderful, but for me, it's too expensive."
Lambert looked at her, his gaze deep. Her words carried a hidden meaning.
She wasn't divorced. There was nothing he could do.
Suppressing his feelings, he asked, "How is the divorce proceeding?"
Camilla replied, "I'm waiting for the court date. You're a busy man, Mr. White. You don't need to trouble yourself with my trivial matters."
Lambert lifted his teacup and took a sip, his knuckles turning white as he gripped the cup.
Camilla averted her gaze and didn't touch her utensils again, falling silent.
She didn't know what Lambert's intentions were toward her.
But she could sense that the man was interested.
Maybe he just wanted to play around, or maybe he wanted a conquest.
Either way, it made Camilla want to keep her distance.
In the following days, Camilla didn't see or even hear anything about Lambert.
Not until the day before New Year's Day—New Year's Eve.
