Lambert had come straight from the office. He was in a suit, looking impeccable, having reverted to his usual imposing and stern demeanor.
As was her habit, Catheleen pushed Camilla into the car first, then went to get into the front passenger seat.
As Camilla put one leg in, she realized Lambert was in the back seat.
A driver was behind the wheel today.
Catheleen saw him too, but she pushed Camilla in anyway.
"Same as always, I'm taking the front seat." Her tone was light, as if it were nothing.
Camilla was already in the car, so it was impossible to get out now.
Fortunately, they were sitting on opposite sides, with some distance between them. But honestly, even so, Camilla felt extremely uncomfortable.
Still, basic politeness was required.
She greeted him, "Mr. White."
Lambert gave a soft sound of acknowledgment.
"Lambert!" Catheleen looked back. "Cammie's going to have to break the bank to treat you to this meal."
Camilla quickly said, "Catheleen, don't say that."
"I'm just reminding Lambert to order a few fewer dishes later. The food there is so expensive!"
Camilla felt a little embarrassed. She knew Catheleen meant no harm, but she didn't want Lambert to get the wrong idea.
She quickly added, "It's fine, Mr. White can order whatever he wants. Don't listen to her."
Catheleen let out a laugh. "Cammie, why does it sound like you're trying to spoil Lambert?"
Camilla's face instantly turned red. "Wh-what are you talking about..."
Letting him order what he wanted and spoiling him were two completely unrelated things, but Catheleen would just say anything.
Lambert frowned. "That's enough."
*Well, that backfired.* Catheleen thought. Her intentions had been good; she just wanted to lighten the mood and make Camilla less tense. But clearly, it wasn't working.
Catheleen made a zipping motion over her lips and sat back properly in her seat.
Camilla had never been to this restaurant before; she hadn't even heard of it.
The outside didn't look overly extravagant, but once inside, she realized it was a different world.
The waitstaff all wore vintage-style long dresses, and were tall and graceful.
"This one is delicious, but it's so expensive."
"Cammie, you like sweet things, how about this one? Wow, this is pricey too?"
"Nothing's cheap. It hurts just looking at the prices."
Camilla was amused by her.
Catheleen had also lived the life of a pampered young lady since she was a child and never had to worry about money.
But when she was with Camilla, she was very considerate of her feelings.
You could never tell she was a spoiled princess.
Camilla cherished this friendship deeply.
The dishes Camilla ordered were all Catheleen's favorites.
Lambert pinched the bridge of his nose and added two more dishes.
Lambert was a VIP at this restaurant, so the owner had given special instructions, and the food arrived quickly.
As Catheleen dug in with gusto, she said, "You ordered so much! It's very expensive!"
