Camilla replied, "We haven't talked much, but I heard her mention she was coming back for the holidays."

"If you knew she was coming back, why weren't you here helping your mother? New Year's Day is tomorrow. Barbara's not home, and you're not coming back either?"

Camilla asked, puzzled, "I came back yesterday. Wasn't Mom the one who wouldn't let me in?"

With the holiday approaching, she had wanted to visit the elders who had raised her. She had brought gifts, but Adah hadn't even opened the door for her.

"Your mother is angry with you, and you can't even try to appease her? Everything your elders do is for your own good. Don't you have even that much patience?"

Camilla said, "If this is about the divorce, I won't compromise. I am definitely going through with it."

Adah's voice took over the phone.
