And he was a starving wolf.
If his moral compass were just a little weaker, he would have already pinned Camilla to the bed and had his way with her.
“I said, do you know who I am?” Lambert struggled to rein in his desire. “What were you just touching? Have you touched anyone else’s?”
“You?” Camilla tilted her head.
She looked so earnest.
Lambert wanted to curse.
This version of Camilla made him want to kiss her even more.
Camilla spoke slowly, “You’re… Lambert. Yes, Lambert!”
“So you do know my name.” A smile touched Lambert’s lips. “Weren’t you always calling me Mr. White?”
“Hmph, Lambert…” Camilla’s eyes narrowed. “Lambert, you big jerk!”
It was as if she had found an outlet for her feelings, and now she couldn’t stop.
“Lambert, you big jerk! Hehe, big jerk! Big jerk!”
Lambert gritted his teeth, a laugh escaping despite his frustration.
“If I were a jerk, you’d be…” He glanced at the woman before him, his throat tightening again. “Camilla, really, you might as well just kill me.”
“Nice abs…” Camilla was oblivious to his turmoil, still lost in her own world. “Nice to touch. Lambert’s… abs are nice…”
“What?” Lambert thought he had misheard. “Whose abs are nice?”
“Lambert’s!” Camilla shouted. “His abs are really nice… No one else’s are as nice as his…”
Lambert had a vague feeling he’d heard this before.
After a moment, he remembered. That day he’d caught her and Catheleen at the bar, on the way back, he had asked her if the abs were nice to look at, nice to touch.
Was she answering him now?
“Mine are nice? You like them?”
As he asked this, Lambert couldn’t stop the smile from spreading across his face.
Camilla reached out to touch them again. “Lambert’s are nice. They’re Lambert’s…”
Lambert didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
“Cammie? Cammie?”
He called her name twice, but there was no response.
He gently lifted her and carefully placed her back on the bed.
This time, she was truly asleep.
Her lashes rested obediently on her cheeks, the slight fullness under her eyes looking adorable.
Her nose was slender and straight, her cherry-red lips full and moist.
Her chin wasn’t sharp but soft and subtly rounded. It would probably feel very nice to the touch.
Lambert belatedly realized that his hand, at some point, had come to rest on her cheek.
His fingertips brushed against her skin. It was warm, smooth, and supple.
He couldn’t resist any longer. He leaned down and gently pressed his lips to hers.
