The moment their lips touched, Lambert shot back up as if he’d been shocked.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to kiss her.
He was afraid that once he started, he wouldn’t be able to control the beast inside him.
He was a man, a man with normal desires.
To have held back this long was already an incredible feat of willpower.
He felt like his body was about to explode.
After one more look at Camilla, he turned and went to the bathroom to cool down, splashing cold water on his face.
Still worried about her, he quickly returned to the bedroom.
Camilla was sleeping soundly now, her head tilted slightly to the side, her arms resting乖乖by her body.
She didn’t move.
She looked like a well-behaved doll.
Lambert let out a silent sigh and sat down on the edge of the bed.
Every time they met, his gaze was irresistibly drawn to her.
But she was sensitive and resistant, and he never dared to look for too long, afraid of making her uncomfortable.
Tonight, however, he could finally look his fill.
She was asleep, after all. She would never know.
Lambert turned off the main light, leaving only a single, dim wall lamp on.
A short while later, the sound of firecrackers erupted outside.
In recent years, many cities had implemented a ban on fireworks.
Cabinda was no exception.
There was only a scheduled fireworks display at the seaside plaza each year.
Lambert glanced at his watch. It was midnight.
The new year had arrived.
He took Camilla’s hand and gently kissed the back of it.
“Cammie, I hope this new year brings you success in everything, and a life of joy and peace.”
*And I hope that you’ll be able to see me in your eyes.*
He didn't say that last part out loud.
Camilla wasn’t divorced. She would never do anything morally questionable while she was still married.
Her character was as beautiful and flawless as her face.
He trusted her.
On New Year’s Eve, many people were out celebrating.
Cheering, singing, reveling.
They would be up all night.
Then she let herself go, wanting to get drunk.
And then, she really did get drunk.
She didn’t know what happened after she fell asleep.
But she remembered waking up, her hands all over Lambert, and the embarrassing things she had said…
It was all coming back to her, vivid and clear.
Oh, god…
Oh, god!
She wished lightning would just strike her dead!
Last time, she had been drugged, which caused the physical urges.
But last night, she had only been drinking. Why had she acted like a total pervert, groping Lambert’s abs?
And the things she had said…
She wanted to die!
Where was the nearest hole to crawl into? She needed to disappear!
How could she ever face anyone again?
She was utterly mortified!
Camilla shot up and scrambled out of bed.
